Page 65 of Not Kissing Nick

Some were wearing clothes that cost more than her car. She pegged them as the Hollywood crowd fast. They tended to stick out around Masterson. That was for sure.

"You ok?" Nick whispered.

"Yes. Can you see all the kids?" She craned her neck a bit, trying to see around the crowd. Looking for five little heads.

"They are in the batch that includes Phil's kids now. Don't worry. The adults will keep an eye on all of them. They'll be ok."

"But half the crowd are from out of town." She couldn't help but worry, especially about her youngest. She searched the crowd quickly. Then relaxed.

Rory had found Glenna and Glenna's girls, already. And the rest of Robin's nieces and nephews. Becky was already hugging Glenna and chattering at Glenna’s girls.

Glenna looked happy and relaxed—and wasn't watching her three girls like a hawk.Robin had to remind herself that she didn't have to live like that any longer.Caution was one thing, paranoia was another.

The kids were safe here in Masterson. That was one of the reasons she’d wanted them to grow up here.

For days just like this.

For family. For community.

They deserved some place to belong.

Glenna saw Robin and smiled, then smirked when she saw Nick next to Robin.

Nick still held onto Robin like he was afraid she'd disappear if he let go. Glenna said something to Rory. Rory turned. The two of them stared like rude idiots. Rory snickered.

Robin was going to be interrogated later. No doubt about that.

Rory and Glenna were enjoying watching Nick…hunt her. Rory was always a little brat—but Glenna?

Phil had been such a bad influence…

Fortunately, Nova came running back toward them. At first, Robin thought the child was aiming for Nick. But then a skinny hand reached for Robin.

Her heart melted. Nova was scared. Overwhelmed.

And no wonder. This crowd was going to get even worse.

She wrapped her fingers around Nova's firmly, then slipped the little girl's hand into Nick’s, where it belonged. She shot Nick a pointed look. One he understood. He reached down and lifted his daughter into his arms. "It's ok, baby. I know there are a lot of people here today. We'll just all stick together, ok?"

"Like a real family?" she asked in a broken little voice that shot straight into Robin's heart. There was fear and longing and hope all rolled into one little question.

"Of course. We are a family," Nick said, firmly. He kissed her on the forehead. She wrapped her arms around his neck and just clung as Becky came zooming back over. Robin found her own arms full of little girl. Only Becky was jabbering on excitedly about a character in her favorite children's movie.

It took a moment for her to put it together, but she deciphered Becky-speak enough to figure out that her daughter thought she'd seen the villain from her favorite show in the crowd.

Glenna filled her in on the details when she got nearer, Eleanor jabbering just as excitedly in Glenna’s ear. "The actor who played Wonkus McBubbles is actually here. He's the best man's younger brother, I believe."

"The Davis brothers are here?" Wow. Talk about the big guns. She'd been drooling over those three Hollywood men for at least three years now. So had Rory and Glenna. Every woman drooled over Slater, Royal, and Quade Davis. It was just a given. They were the most drool-worthy men on the movie screen.

"Best man is a friend of the bride and groom. And his brothers, too. The Davis brothers. The real ones. I about swallowed my tongue seeing them in tuxes side by side a few minutes ago. Almost as nice as seeing Phil and his sons-in-law,” Glenna said. "You look gorgeous, Robbie. Then again, you always do."

"So do you." More than that, Glenna looked happy. Especially when she looked at Phil as he greeted Nick.

There was pure love in Glenna's eyes as she smiled at the man currently holding her middle daughter almost like a monkey.

Of course, they were getting married in one month themselves. In a nice, quiet ceremony being held at Phil’s son-in-law Levi’s ranch.

Robin was making it her personal mission to make certain her best friend and her brother-in-law were happy forever after.

As they stood visiting, a hard male arm slipped behind her waist. Nick shifted her closer. Until her shoulder was resting against that chest of his, and he was protecting her and Becky and Nova from the press of the crowd.

So casually.

Like they were as much as unit, a pair, as Glenna and Phil. To everyone around them, that was probably exactly what they looked like.

Robin suspected he'd done it unconsciously. Because in his convoluted man brain...they already were.

She had no clue what she was going to do about that now.

Because one thing was clear—there was no predicting Nick.
