Page 87 of Not Kissing Nick

“The bus will drop the rest of the kids off in about five minutes. And you are?” She looked at the man in a suit. She wasn’t cowed by this man, not by a long shot. Her look let him know that.

Men in fancy suits had lost their power to intimidate her the moment she’d buried her husband.

She sensed he was going to be important. He had that air about him.

Nick’s door opened, and Aaron Masterson stepped out. He nodded at Robin. “I see you have more clients waiting their turn. Robin, I meant what I said on the phone last night. If you change your mind—”

“I won’t.”

“I guess Nick beat me to you, then.” Aaron smiled his perfectly polished smile at her again. He really was a nice man—and nice looking. But Nick…Nick set the standard for her now.

And probably would forever.

Robin looked at Nick. “That he did.”

Aaron stepped outside, after saying hello to Linsey, who he apparently knew well.

Leaving Robin, holding Becky, in the middle of everyone. “Nick, Jude and Linsey have brought these men here to see you.”

She turned to the man in the suit. “You haven’t introduced yourself yet, sir.”

Maybe it was rude of her, but she sensed a threat.

To Nick’s kids.

And Mama Bear was ready.

Just as the familiar sound of the school bus pulling away out front sounded. Early. For the first time all week.

“I’m Dr. Samuel Brown,” he said, looking at Nick. A clear challenge was on his handsome face. One that had Nick bristling, too. “I’m Selena’s brother. And…I’ve come to get Noah. To live with me.”

“Like hell you are.” Nick’s hand tightened on Robin’s shoulder, and he pulled her and Becky closer. Away from the other man. “Noah is my kid now. He’s not going anywhere.”

“Nick?” The front door was wide open. The kids were right there. They must have come in after Aaron had left. She’d wanted to stop them at the door.

All four of them. Before this turned into a real fiasco.

There was fear on their faces. Wesley and Philip had their hands on Nova’s shoulders, holding her between them. Noah stood protectively in front of them all, his entire posture saying he was feeling threatened.

“Daddy!” Nova shouted, running toward Nick. She wrapped her arms around him. “Don’t let him take Noah away! You promised nobody would take him away again.”

“Noah isn’t going anywhere,” Nick said, but it was too late.

Nova was in full-blown temper-tantrum mode. For the first time Robin had ever seen.
