HARPER

Is it a full moon tonight?Because I certainly feel like something just happened under this night sky. Me tripping isn’t really news, but landing on Ryan is. Well, maybe that would still be somewhat normal. But I could have crawled off him as gracefully as possible, and thanked him for catching me. Instead, I’m apparently thanking him by grinding on him and trying to eat him alive.

But it feels so damn good. One of his hands is on my butt, and I swear, he’s urging me on, and the other one is firmly pressed against the back of my neck, drawing me as close to him as possible without either one of us breaking our nose.

Our lips are fused together in a way I’m not sure we’ll ever be able to detach from again. It makes it almost impossible to distinguish where I end and where he begins. His tongue is in my mouth, hot and wild. And his lips are fused to mine like they’re the essence that keeps him alive.

I’ve thought about our night on New Year’s a lot, replaying it in my head like it’s my favorite movie. I was convinced the drinks, along with the rush of sharing this intense pleasure with this beautiful man, were the culprit of why the memories seemed almost too good to be true. Like my brain took the memory and glorified and intensified it for my pleasure, turning it into this incredible daydream I couldn’t get enough of.

But I might have been wrong after all, because being with him at this very moment is just as mind-blowing as my daydream was. My skin tingles with excitement, and my core is throbbing with so much need, I’m getting a little light-headed. Although that could also be from the lack of oxygen I’m sure I’m experiencing by now.

A loud noise somewhere startles me, and I pull back from Ryan and his addictive lips. My pulse is racing so fast I’m afraid my arteries might burst from the pressure at any second.

I swallow and stare at him.

Oh my God, I just attacked him like some sex-deprived hussy. What is wrong with me?

You wanted to take things slowly, remember?

Crap.

“I’m so sorry.” I detangle myself from him and climb into my own spot, unable to miss the massive erection he’s sporting behind his zipper.

“Sorry? What the hell are you sorry about?” He tilts his head back and stares into the sky.

His Adam’s apple pops out more at this angle, and it only adds to his stunning profile.

I lift my fingers to my mouth and brush my fingertips over my swollen lips. Oddly enough, the only thing that’s floating through my body is a sense of contentment and satisfaction over what just happened, even if it might not have been the smartest move. But the warmth spreading from my chest to the rest of my body, and this overall feeling of weightlessness, is too good to regret.

Ryan raises his brows as if he’s trying to remind me his question is still unanswered.

I swallow but hold his gaze. “We agreed to take things slowly, and I just attacked you.”

The corners of his mouth lift, and he chuckles. “You make it sound like I’m some weakling who can’t defend your advances.”

I grimace. “That wasn’t at all what I meant.”

His hand touches mine for a second before he pulls it back. “I’m just joking, Harper. I know you didn’t. But trust me, I’d tell you if you did something I didn’t like. In reality, I can’t stop thinking about you, and it’s been a real struggle to keep my hands to myself.”

Well, if that isn’t a confidence booster. “So, what you’re saying is thank you?”

The laugh explodes out of him, and I join in.

He shakes his head at me. “I can’t believe you just said that.”

I dig my teeth into my lower lip. “Neither can I, it just came out.”

“It was perfect.” He lifts his hand and brushes his thumb over my cheek and along my jaw. “And yes, thank you. It has only quenched my thirst a little, but it was still everything I wanted and needed.”

“I’m glad. I feel the same.” Heat rushes to my cheeks, and I blindly grab for the plate next to me, holding it up like a peace offering. “Wanna share dessert?”

Ryan’s gaze is blazing hot, but he stays where he’s at. “I’d love to.”

I put the plate on my lap, and in some kind of silent agreement, we both focus back on the screen. We watch the rest of the movie while snacking on the fruit and some kind of dark chocolate and peanut butter truffles that melt in my mouth.

The smoothie is gone in no time, and by the end of the movie, I’m so full and satiated I almost fall asleep. The screen has darkened, only the credits rolling now, and I stare into the sky. The stars twinkle above without a care in the world, watching us like we’re they’re favorite entertainment. Or maybe they’re ours?

Ryan shifts around, brushing my arm briefly in the process. “I can’t remember the last time I really looked at the stars.”
