Chapter Fifty-Seven

Aurora

#

ROSE AND TRIX STEAL me away the morning of our pack ceremony, back to the omega housing where all the omegas fuss over us, helping us primp and prepare.

Robert is front and center, the scent of alpha all over him. "I bonded too. Not into a pack, but I found an alpha, so I'll be staying in town too."

I beam at him. “That's great!! I can't wait to meet them."

Robert paints my lips red. “She's coming to the ceremony, I'll introduce you there. Sorry I've been so MIA since we arrived. I've been shacked up with her."

Rose shakes her head from her spot next to me as a different omega brushes gold along her cheekbones. “We don't blame you at all. We're thrilled for you. And for us."

"Let's finish getting you ready to meet your pack. I'm loving the suit, by the way, Rory. It's always so hot when you wear that when you're usually flouncing around in your pretty little sundresses. Have they seen you in a suit yet?"

I shake my head. “Only Enzo, my beta."

He snickers. “They're going to lose their minds. I can't wait to see their faces."

One of the omegas starts passing around champagne, and we all sip and laugh, enjoying this last day together like this. I usually hide away for these moments, refusing to take part. I was wrong. I'm sure there were plenty of omegas who felt like they didn't have a choice, but how many were thrilled with their alphas or packs and I refused to support them? And of those who weren't thrilled, they deserved my support too.

My commiseration.

I've been too angry at the world and the bullshit that it kept me from seeing what was right in front of me, and how I could help them in different ways than behind a computer screen or with my face buried in a book. I could’ve just been there for them, building relationships past Rose and Robert.

I need to do better.

Rose leans over to me. "I think I'd like to work with the town here on omega affairs."

"What?" I don’t quite know what she means.

She nods. “Yeah, like help them arrange things so that they're more comfortable for omegas when we get a new group here. At least while the OCP is still operational."

I grin at her, fighting the emotion trying to rise in my eyes. “I think that's great. You'll be amazing at that. It's the perfect job for you."

"I'm just happy I can finally have a job and do something with my life other than this."

I grab her hand and squeeze. “I know. It's going to be great."

"It is."

"You two are ridiculous. Less sentimental drivel and more alcohol." Trix shoves new glasses into our hands before kissing us both, making us laugh.

I don't think it'll be long at all before the two of them bond as mates. I'm so happy I brought them together.

Rose swats me. “Stop congratulating yourself for our relationship. We did all the hard work."

"How did you know?" I ask with a laugh.

She scoffs. “I know you, you asshole. I know what that cocky and self-important look on your face means. It's your "I was right, I'm so smart" face and it's incredibly offensive."
