Rose turns a determined scowl onto Aurora. “You're going to do this."

Aurora rears back. “What?"

Rose scowls harder. “It's the perfect answer, at least until you can figure out a way out. You haven't heard from any of them. You need a plan B in the meantime, and this one is perfect. She'll fucking do it. And she's very grateful that you're willing to help her.”

Aurora splutters. “What about the fact that your pack already has an omega? They're going to have plenty to say about that."

Callan shrugs. ”It's not traditional, no, but it's also not illegal. It helps that I'm not romantically attached to Oliver. Grey is a councilman and our mother is the mayor, we have more privilege and options than most.”

Grey snarls. “Besides, didn't they tell you that your options would be limited?"

Aurora sighs. “I don't think they meant this. Certainly not the mayor's son's pack."

I shrug. “Maybe not, but you're still obeying their demands."

Aurora swallows hard. ”Can I think about it? If I haven't heard back from anyone by tomorrow, then I guess I'll accept the offer. Just to pretend we're courting or whatever. I'm not formally joining your pack. That's way too far."

Rose elbows Aurora. “Explain your mother to them."

Aurora glares at her friend and shakes her head. “What they're doing is enough."

Rose huffs and turns to us. “You need to protect her. She may need to move in here, so her mother can't get to her privately."

"Why is that?" Oliver asks, expression hardening.

Aurora stiffens, horror on her face. “Rose!"

Rose refuses to back down. “You'd do the same if my family was on their way, and the situation was reversed."

"What the hell is going on?" Grey growls.

Rose sighs. “Her mother is a piece of shit and she's pissed at the trouble Rory is in."

I cut in before we hear more than Aurora is ready for us to know. “Say no more. We get it. And yes, move in here. We have plenty of room. Keep your space in the omega housing for when you need it, but if you move in, it'll look even better from their point of view. We'll make sure you're never alone with her."

Aurora jumps off the couch, her hands twisting. “I—I need to go. Thank you. All of you. Really. And I'll consider it seriously. I just... I need some space. Some time."

Callan frowns. ”Let me at least pack you up some dinner."

Aurora forces a strained smile. “Okay. thanks."

Callan and Grey rush back to the kitchen.

Oliver grimaces at Aurora, finally breaking the tense silence we’re left in. ”We're sorry we ambushed you like this. It's been a shitty enough couple days for you."

Callan and Grey return with a couple bags of food, holding them out to the women, voicing their own apologies.

She accepts the bag. “It's fine. I'll see you guys tomorrow, I guess."

We watch with grim and helpless frustration as Aurora and Rose rush out of our home.

Once they're gone, the door shut behind them, we all turn towards Callan.

"What?"

Grey snarls. “What the hell was that? We were going to ease her into it, and you just ran full steam ahead to the endgame instead of step one. You freaked her out!"

Callan throws his hands into the air. “You didn't see that fucking alpha corner her. And then she just... she smells so fucking good and she told me so much and I have to do something. We have to do something."
