THERE'S A SLIGHT SKIP to my step as the guys continue to usher me on the exploration of the town. The bookstore was a great way to start the day, even with the old grump who runs it. I can't believe he wants to carry my ramblings, but I'll take the profits. I'll need them with everything headed my way. I've saved a decent amount of money, but it isn't enough for me to live on indefinitely. Especially if the OFF has cut off communication, and will no longer be paying me for my contributions.
I really shouldn't have taken the day off. I should be making concrete plans for my next move, searching for a cabin out in the middle of nowhere, something.
If I do disappear, it's not like there would be some massive manhunt for me. As long as I stay away from the authorities, I could probably live off-grid for quite a while.
Oliver nudges me. "All right?"
I nod. “Yeah. The worries are just starting to creep back in."
He winds his arm with mine. “Then allow us to distract you with lunch."
I grin. “Food is always a wonderful distraction."
"For me as well."
Grey looks up from his phone. “Looks like Callan can join us. His surgery finished early. He's going to meet us there."
I smile, glad Callan won't be left out of the rest of the adventure. This pack is pretty impressive. They're kind and charming and fun. I actually enjoy my time with them, allowing them to convince me to leave work and worries behind and just enjoy this town.
A place that is also charming.
The grump at the bookstore is my favorite so far, but there have been plenty of introductions to lovely people at each place we stopped. The townsfolk are curious about me, but they were all very kind.
This place is like something out of a Christmas movie without all the holiday decorations.
"Is this place for real?" I ask.
