I cut him off. “The ceremony is about to begin.”

“Your brother has been acting weird all summer, but I never imagined it was something like this. If I’d known, I would’ve acted sooner.”

Marcos, weird? I didn’t notice. Shit. I didn’t notice! I’ve been so immersed in my own drama I didn’t realize my brother was crying out for help. Not even yesterday, when we all spent the last night with him. Marcos seemed... normal.

“What about Alicia?”

“He’s not in love with her.”

“But how is that possible? How can he have just realized that now? Really?”

“He loves her, but not the way he should. When they first started dating, he was so attracted to her, and I think he did fall in love, but that love he felt at the beginning has faded to fondness over the years.”

“How does he know it’s only that? Only fondness?”

“Marc has been weighed down by this for months. He was desperate when he came here yesterday, he told me everything.”

“What did you say?”

“I tried to explain the way I love—loved you,” he corrects himself. “And that cleared up all his doubts.”

“But...” It’s hard to speak after what he just said. “Marcos is already at the church.”

“Because he has every intention of getting married. He doesn’t care about what I told him. He said he’d never do that to Alicia, that it’d be unforgivable.”

“I have to—”

“Hey,” he cuts me off, looking at my phone. “It’s flickering nonstop.”

“My brothers. I don’t know what they want.”

I glance at the screen and start going through the messages, Alex’s head pressed against mine. I also have several missed calls from all of them, and from my parents, and a million from Jaime. I guess they want to know where I am.

Adri:

Priscila, did you take my car?

River Phoenix:

Guys, Marcos is not okay.

Hugoisthestar:

I agree. Have you seen his face?

River Phoenix:

Yes.

Adri:

He’s about to vomit.

Hugoisthestar:

He’s so freaked out. I don’t like it. He doesn’t look happy.

Adri:
