“Here you go.” The handsome electrician hands me my plate and then guides me over to the kitchen table with a big palm pressed against my lower back. I can feel the warmth of his skin through his shirt, and it makes something in my stomach coil tight. I must be in the process of losing my mind because even the slightest touch from this man drives me crazy.

Meanwhile, Kurt pulls my chair out for me and then pushes it back toward the table once I’m seated, before planting a sweet kiss atop my head and going to grab his own plate.

When he’s seated across from me, I look down at my food with a smile. Bacon, eggs, sausage, and French toast with powdered sugar and plenty of syrup. My favorite.

“It looks really good,” I say in an appreciative tone.

“Bon appetit, sweetheart. I hope you like it,” he adds.

I take a bite and it’s truly heavenly. Then I launch into a three-minute-long speech about how amazing a cook he is because holy shit, Kurt is an amazing cook even if he modestly denies being any good. Then, we continue eating without much conversation. Okay, I’m practically gobbling my food, but I don’t care, it’s that delicious.

Yet it’s not awkward at all. It’s like Kurt and I have known each other forever, and the familiarity of it makes me think that we must be right for each other. Is that crazy? I mean, I’ve only known him for one day. Hell, not even that. Twelve hours. Yet, I get the sense that everything that happened leading up to this moment was supposed to happen exactly the way that it did because if not, we wouldn’t be sitting here, enjoying each other’s company while savoring perfectly cooked bacon.

Once we’ve pushed our plates to the side, I smile at him.

“So tell me, Mr. Crenshaw. How do you like owning your own company?”

He grins.

“It’s good. I came up here this weekend to get away from it actually, because the phone’s been ringing off the hook with new potential clients. Which I’m more than grateful for, don’t get me wrong, because it means that my business is successful. But I guess I just needed a little bit of a break from it all. Just for a weekend with a pretty girl,” he winks.

I flap my hand at him playfully.

“Oh you!”

He grins but then grows serious.

“No really. I’ve been working nonstop, and it was starting to take a toll. So I figured it wouldn’t hurt to come up and enjoy my cabin for a few days. You know, just kick back and relax for a little while before getting back to it.”

“That’s good,” I smile. “Are you feeling relaxed?”

He gets a gleam in those blue eyes.

“Very relaxed, honey. But very amped up too.”

I giggle again.

“Well, I think I can help with that. Both the relaxation and the amplification,” I say with a sly double entendre.

He lets out an amused chuckle as he rubs the back of his neck.

“I look forward to it. But I wasn’t going to be a coach potato the entire time. I was planning on doing some repairs around the cabin to get it ready for hunting season. Thus, the tool box.”

I throw him a confused look.

“You don’t have the tool box with you all the time?”

He chuckles, flashing a million dollar smile.

“I have a tool box with me most of the time, but it’s usually a smaller one for electrical jobs. This one is the big kahuna that I use for more technical repairs.”

I nod, as if in understanding.

“Ah ha. Got it.”

Then, Kurt turns curious eyes to me.

“What about you, sweetheart? What do you do? And how do you know my daughter again?”

I perk.

“From Four Eyes of course! Addy and I are co-workers, and we help customers pick out frames, ringing them up and that kind of thing.”

He nods.

“Do you like it?”

I cock my head, thinking for a moment.

“It’s okay. I mean, I like helping customers and of course, Addy and I are friends. That’s how I found out about this cabin,” I say, my cheeks going pink. “We came here together a few months ago for a girls’ weekend. You know, just hanging out, bonding, doing each other’s nails, and talking shit about our annoying customers. That sort of thing,” I confess. “It was wonderful, and I remembered how to get here, so I came up…” My voice trails off and he throws me a look.

“By yourself?” Kurt asks.

I take a deep breath because I knew this was coming.

“No, not by myself,” I admit. “There was a man with me. My ex,” I clarify.

He nods, his blue eyes going a deep shade of navy.

“I was wondering about that. It’s not often that a woman can insert a dildo in her ass and also handcuff herself without the help of another person. So he’s out of the picture?”
