“Yeah, Brittany is going to have a girl, too, so don’t tell her. I don’t want to steal her thunder.”

She set her com to record. “So, you saw your daughter and collapsed.”

“Yeah, Kritz says that the chemical components that I was treated to might have helped me to get pregnant, but the mark was providing a stabilizing effect. When we scrubbed it, the cocktail left my system. Apparently, it was needed for development. Stupid omega, falling for the wrong alpha.”

Vallu touched her hands, and they were ice cold. “Oh, honey, you need help. I am calling Khytten.”

“No. She just had babies. She needs quiet.”

Vallu slapped the fingers that were clutching hers. “How do you think she would feel if she knew how badly off you were?”

Ylara blinked, and her eyes focused. “Oh, she would be pissed.” She giggled. “She would probably shoot what is left of me.”

Vallu smiled slightly. “I am calling her now.”

“Your chef is bringing food. Feel free. I am not hungry.”

Vallu nodded. “Hold on. I am getting things underway.”

Khytten’s response was swift. She was sending help to get Ylara immediately.

Vallu got the bag of clothing and put it in Ylara’s arms. The shadow-walking agent entered the house and lifted Ylara carefully.

The crow-headed Aksallan agent nodded. “She will be with Salat and his mate in a moment.”

He stepped into the shadows, and Ylara was gone.

She let Khytten know that Ylara had been picked up, and a moment later, it was confirmed that she had landed.

Vallu was going to have to explain it to Etgar, but that was after he had a chat with Riithan, fist-to-face.

Chapter Four

Etgar pounded his fist against the door to the Sethir-Nin consulate. The guards saw him and let him pass. “Riithan. Where?”

Shaking hands pointed upstairs. He sprinted up the steps three at a time. His nose told him where his friend was. He opened the first door and kicked his way through the second door. The scent of sex and alcohol made Etgar flinch.

Riithan was sitting with his tail against the bed, the sheets bearing Ylara’s heat scent were around him, and a bottle of whiskey was nearby.

Riithan’s tail moved sluggishly. “Etgar. What the hell? That was my door.”

“What did you do to Ylara?”

He shrugged. “What do you think? She’s a woman for hire, and someone hired her to pretend to be with me.”

Etgar frowned. “What? No, they didn’t. She was a guest at the wedding. Almost all of the women on Vallu’s side were escorts in varying stages of activation.”

“Right. So, my family hired her to screw me.”

“No, they didn’t. She wasn’t hired. The BDC wouldn’t have given you an escort that wasn’t matched and selected through them. You met a good woman who was in heat, and you spent that heat together, and then, you learned she was an escort, and you threw her out.”

Riithan looked up at him and snorted. “I gave her a shirt.”

“Check your account.”

“What?”

“Zera sent me a notice. Check your account.”
