I pointed from me to Silas to Viktor. “We’re married to a prince. All of us.” I struggled to catch my breath and pull it together. Just when I thought I had it, I lost it again. “This is just insane.”

And like I hadn’t said quite enough yet, I added, “I’m a princess.” And the giggles wouldn’t end. “So are you and you.” I pointed to Silas and Viktor.

“You weren’t a princess. And you’re entitled to nothing.”Thiswas the reason Henryk had hidden who he really was. He didn’t trust any of us. If either of the boys, or me for that matter, refused to sign the paperwork then he was stuck, married to three people he didn’t want to be married to.

“It isn’t like I’m going to extort you for your freedom.” For fuck’s sake. But on the other hand, he didn’t know me. The children we’d been then weren’t the adults we were now. He certainly hadn’t shown a single sign of having a stick shoved up his ass back then.

Viktor winked at me and I narrowed my eyes at him, but he was looking ahead at our prince “husband.”

“My office is through here,” Henryk said, inviting us into an office that was five times the size of the office Francis used. This one had floor to ceiling bookshelves that were full of books and had one of those rolling ladders in front. His desk was old and heavy, ornate with a shine to the wood that only came with love and care.

The warmth matched the man I’d had dinner with last night, but it certainly didn’t match the prince standing in front of me now.

Henryk’s tone was icy. “Shall we get to signing and then you can all get on with your lives.” He really wanted us gone.

“And you can get on with yours.” Silas sniped at a prince. We were American. Royalty wasn’t our thing. “Itching to marry your stranger, are you?”

He almost smiled and I almost mentioned it, but I kept my lips clamped shut. How he’d gone from being so sweet to so snide, I couldn’t understand. It was like he had a personality switch. “Yes, well...” Henryk opened his briefcase and took out bundles of papers.

I picked up a dip pen—who used these anymore—dipped it into the well of ink in front and poised it as if I was about to write on the mahogany desk. “Let’s get on with it.”

Henryk pointed at the contracts. “I’ve made five copies. One each for us, and one for filing with the authorities.”

I glanced up at him, meeting his dark gaze and feeling a pang of regret. “Wouldn’t want to hold up your wedding.” I was bitter and didn’t understand it. We didn’t know each other beoynd what his body felt like under my palm, how his lips tasted, how his eyes darkened when with desire. But I hadn’t even known he was a prince. This was for the best. Henryk stared at me, then nodded once. “Of course. It has to be this way.”

I sighed and put the pen to paper. “All right. As you wish, your highness.”

Then it would be on to Spain, leaving my prince—indeed, leaving all three of my husbands—behind forever.
