“Because we’re just one big happy family. I expect the coordinates on my phone within the hour.”

“Why don’t you ask Flora? She knows the place well.”

“She’s not going with me. I’ll find another human to handle the stone.”

Flora opened her mouth to protest, but Draven shot daggers in her direction, and she quickly closed it.

“Suit yourself, Draven. Don’t come crying to me when your world falls apart without her.”

The line went dead. Draven stared at it angrily. What utter bullshit. His world wasn’t going to fall apart without Flora. She’s just another human.Draven’s wolf snarled in response to his offhanded thought and not his jackass brother. He may not understand why his wolf was there, but Draven was growing frustrated with his interest in the tiny blonde pressed against him. It was Draven’s life, and though he felt most at peace when his wolf joined him during the full moon, he wasn’t sure how he felt about his input over every move he made. The offending wolf huffed and stood his ground, confident he wasn’t going anywhere.

“What did he say?” Flora’s soft voice pulled him from the standoff.

“Besides cryptic threats and vague bullshit?”

A smile tipped at Flora’s lips as she let the tension out of her shoulders and sank into the arm of the couch. “Ahh the Callum one-two punch.”

Draven cocked a brow. “You know it well, I take it?”

“I’m here because of it.”

“You truly don’t know why any of this is important, do you?”

“I’m here to help save Emery and her child.” She let out a deep sigh, and Draven couldn’t help but notice the way she softened when she talked about her best friend.

“Does ‘the cave where the moon touches the earth, in the eye of her mountains,’ mean anything to you?”

Flora sucked in a sharp breath and straightened her spine. Gone was the woman who spoke of children and saviors. She averted her gaze from him, and if that wasn’t enough to confirm she knew something, the way her body shook did.

Draven reached up and took her chin between his fingers, he brought her eyes back to his. “Where, Flora?”

“A place I hoped never to return to.” Her eyes stared into his, but he was certain it wasn’t his face she was seeing. Her gaze had lost all of its fire, replaced by a darkness he never would have expected in a pampered princess.

“Why?” He struggled between the urge to shake her for information and hug her until the light returned. “Flora, where is it?”

“Lune,” she whispered and shook her head, dislodging it from his hand as if it would also remove the memories that plagued her. “It’s in Canada. It was once my home.”

“You know it well then?”

Her brow furrowed. “Why?”

Draven let his hand fall to her collarbone, tracing the edge of the chain that held the stone. Just his proximity to it heated his hand. “The other half of the stone is located there, and you’re going to help me find it.”

Flora jerked back, falling from the arm of the couch cushion behind her. She scurried to right herself. “I can’t. No, I won’t. Not like this. I’m not ready to go back there.”

Draven warred against his wolf’s need to comfort her. He had no idea what had come over her, what demons of hers lay in Lune, but coddling her wasn’t going to help either of their causes. He needed her mad. Needed her ready to go toe to toe with him if they were going to survive whatever the hell goose chase Callum was sending them on.

He moved around the edge of the couch and stood in front of her. “It’s a good thing it’s not about you. If you want to secure protection for your friend, then you will be going with us and helping to secure the stone.”

Flora’s gaze narrowed, and he watched her battle silently against herself. He might not know her well, but he knew she’d fold. There was no way she was going to pass up the chance to help both her friends and the wolves. The demons that plagued her might frighten her, but the goodness in her wouldn’t allow her to be at fault for the suffering of innocents.

It was one way in which they were similar.

“You’ll protect Emery and her child?” Flora asked.

“I already have a wolf in mind for the job.”

She let out a spirited scoff. “Your pack didn’t seem thrilled by the notion of you being a hybrid, so why would one of them help? ”
