As if on cue, a howl sounded in the distance, and Flora’s eyes widened. They needed to get inside.

She tried to pull her hand away, but his grip tightened and he brought her wrist to his mouth. His eyes never left hers, challenging her to oppose him, and he bit into her flesh with his venom-filled fangs.

“You need that more than I do,” she protested. Stubborn-ass wolf.

He didn’t answer her as he licked the puncture wounds and the slice closed and leaned back into her for support. They both watched the wound on her wrist close, but the half moon on her forearm didn’t heal. His venom took away some of the sting, but the dark shadows scarred deep within her skin.

Flora opened the door and they stumbled through it into the darkness of the cabin. She set Draven on the floor by what looked to be a wood-burning stove and fumbled around in the dark looking for any sort of light source.

He inhaled a sharp breath followed by a long exhale. “I’m sorry, Flora.”

“Sorry for what? You saved my life back there,” she spoke over her shoulder while sifting through things on the table in the middle of the room.

Bingo.

She found an oil lamp and thanked the Goddess it was similar to the ones they had at the castle for when the power went out. Next to it was a flint and steel to get it started, and though it took her a few tries to get the technique Kade had shown her, she let out a small laugh of triumph when she did it.

When she turned back around, she found Draven lying on the floor asleep, his hand outstretched in her direction, but that wasn’t what had her jumping back in fear.

It was the skeleton sitting in the chair behind where he lay next to the stove, a notebook sprawled open in his lap.

When the shock had worn off, she walked over to see the words that were scrawled in large bold lettering.

‘ALL WHO ENTER HERE PERISH’

They were fucked.
