“So, you know they’re poisonous, and you picked them anyway?”

“Don’t be a drama queen. They are safe after you cook them.”

He shook his head in disbelief, then stuck out his tongue and moved it around.

“Is the feeling coming back yet?” I asked.

“Yeah. I spat it out right away, so I don’t think the poison did much.”

“That's what you get for throwing away my chanterelles,” I said, feeling only the tiniest bit guilty over the scare it gave him. “Next time, just let me prepare everything first.”

“I don’t think I’ll be risking it next time.”

“Your loss.”

“Have you found a stream or anything?” Sean asked. “I need to wash up, and I don’t want to use our drinking water for it.”

That was probably a good idea. I might find more mushrooms, too, if I went with Sean.

“Let’s go look.”

We trudged in a new direction, hoping to find something there. After a good half an hour, the sound of the running water guided us to the small stream, just deep enough to wash off the sweat.

I tried the water with my toe first. Not bad. The warm summer days did their job.

Sean pulled his shirt off and tossed it to the side, then dropped his pants. Well… That… Um… That would feature in a few fantasies.

With nothing but his boxers on, he walked into the water, but it only went up to his thighs. And it didn’t cover the important parts. God, some views were hard to beat.

Alright, I didn’t need to stare at him. This was just a fake engagement. A real hookup would make things way too complicated, despite what Sean thought.

“Are you joining me?” he asked.

No. Definitely not. If I stripped down to my underwear, things might get heated, and the water wasn’t cold enough to bring us back to our senses.

“I’ll wait until you’re done.”

“Come on, I don’t bite.” He waved for me to come closer. “Unless you want me to.”

“That line only works in vampire movies.”

Still, I stripped to my bra and panties and joined him. His one hand on my waist, he guided me to the boulder sticking out in the middle of the stream.

Sean’s fingers moved up my back, then shoulders. “Damn, you’re stiff.”

“Right back at you.” Ugh. I didn’t need to say that.

He rubbed my shoulder, making me moan as I dropped my head back and leaned against him.

"You get tense like this often?" he asked me.

"Only when people throw out my food," I said.

"It's hard to relax when you’re hangry." He kissed my shoulder, then cheek. "I better feed you when we get back.”

“You better,” I agreed.

“You know, there’s an easy way to relax.”

I pulled away. “That’s a bad idea.”

Dropping his hands, Sean let me go. We washed up in silence, letting the running water fill the void.

Nature did its thing, though. It took a lot of the tension off. A job at the hospital. A new house. A stranger for a fiancé. I could take it all now.
