“Yep. All good. I’ll be back in a minute.”

“You have to talk to me, Lanie. We won’t get through this if you don’t,” he pleaded.

“I don’t have anything to say. Or I don’t know what to say. I need time.”

“I’m afraid if I give you too much time it will break us…I will lose you. You pull farther away every day,” he commented.

It could happen. And she didn’t believe she wanted that. She didn’t trust her judgment or her heart. Circling, she faced him. He appeared wounded and defeated. A reflection of herself. She looped her arm in his and directed him back inside. “Let’s go in. The night is still early, and we have more sushi and Sake to sell.”

He lifted her arm and kissed the back of her hand. “You, my dear, could sell hell out from underneath Satan and he’d be none the wiser.”

She laughed, “Is that supposed to be a compliment? I am positive you can do better.”

He still held her hand close to his mouth. His tongue extended and slid between her fingers. He licked and sucked one. Her core reacted. It constricted and throbbed craving more. Her mind stalled and her body seized the opportunity to dominate her actions.

“Gavin…” she whimpered.

He knew. He knew exactly what she wanted and needed. Taking her straight to the storage room, he locked the door, and his fingers went straight to the back of her dress. Beneath the urgency and pressure of his thumbs, several of the buttons popped off and bounced on the floor. They chuckled but didn’t let anything prevent them from shedding their clothes and pressing their bare bodies together. Even Tara knocking on the door and asking if anyone was in there didn’t hinder their desire.

The cold metal of the shelving pressed into her back as Gavin lifted her thighs to straddle him and he pounded into her until she saw stars. He pressed his mouth into hers to muffle her screams of pleasure.

Regrets formed. No matter how hard she tried to fight them, they rushed her. And they were relentless when she gave in to her desires and had sex with him. The truth of their doomed relationship couldn’t be avoided. She tried forgetting anything existed when they got lost in one another. But reality always returned. She and Gavin were great while they lasted. But they had no future. They had no future even before she knew about his past. The longer she postponed the inevitable the worse it would be.
