“She ain’t even my girl.”

“Clearly,” Gerald emphasized, making it hard for me not to laugh as we all headed towards the buses that would take us to the hotel the team had been staying at for the entirety of training camp. But since this was my first time joining them this season, it was a little more of a process for me to get all checked in and then bring in the suitcase that would hold me over for the next week or so before I was finally able to settle in on the couch in my room to watch the highlights from all the games that had been played tonight around the league.

Most of the coverage was about the rookies who’d been drafted early in the first-round since tonight was their first time on the field. But when they got to our team, all they could talk about was how much our quarterback play would need to improve if we expected to do anything significant this season. Though, like me, they also made note of how solid our backup had looked even though he was only going up against a second-team defense.

To me, it was a no-brainer for him to be promoted to QB1. And I was sure to tell him that right after I’d introduced myself to him in the locker room after the game, a sentiment he appreciated while also acting surprised that I even knew who he was.

Obviously, I hadn’t known him before Gerald put me up on game. But he seemed like a decent dude who just wanted an opportunity and was willing to put in the work to make it happen, an energy I would always have respect for and could only hope the front office would be wise enough to do something with.

Considering how they’d handled my contract shit, it was hard for me to have a lot of hope. But because I could already see it for him, I hopped on Instagram to find his profile and then followed him before scrolling through his page to learn a little more about who Snoop really was outside of football.

According to his feed, there wasn’t a whole lot, every picture and video somehow related to either “the grind” or the game itself. But again, I respected the energy, being sure to “like” his latest post from tonight of his jersey hanging up in his locker with the caption,“Go Time”that was paired with the bird emoji we all used whenever we were posting Skyhawks shit.

Because I was already there, I decided to scroll around a little bit, giving another “like” to the picture Racquel had posted of her and her hot dog loving ass dad in the stands. Then I scrolled a little further and damn near dropped my phone when I saw the girl I couldn’t seem to get out of my head posing in a squatted position to show off the kicks she was wearing, the fact that she was even on my timeline confusing the hell out of me until I saw where the post had come from.

JustKickinItHTX: Meet our new sneaker enthusiast, @BriBriTheeStallion!As a former intern at Nike and a lifetime lover of kicks, Briyana knows everything there is to know when it comes to the hottest drops, making her the perfect addition to our #JustKickinItHTX family.

Of course the comments were filled with a bunch of thirsty ass niggas trying to shoot their shot, one mothafucka in particular getting extra clever with it when he said something about wanting to make her a part of his family too. But honestly, I couldn’t even blame them since Yani looked good as fuck with half of her hair pulled up into a ponytail while the rest hung past her shoulders, her cute ass smirk painted in her signature red lipstick, and an exclusive pair of Blue The Great Jordan 1s on her feet that lowkey had me jealous since I still didn’t have a pair myself.

“Bri Bri Thee Stallion, huh?” I said out loud, clicking the tagged name which led me to her profile that was still private. But now that the store she’d apparently been hired at -and my favorite sneaker store in the city- had tagged her, I was curious to see if that would last, not taking any chances of her possibly going even more incognito when I clicked the button to send a follow request.
