“What if we...?”

Before he could even finish his suggestion, I turned over my shoulder to ask, “Are you gonna let me do this or not?”

Guiltily, he held up his hands and said, “My bad, my bad. You got it.”

“Thank you,” I responded with an exaggerated grin as I watched Lance return to the kitchen before I got back to work. And by the time I was finished, I was kind of jealous that the shoes were for him and not for me; though itwasextra rewarding to see the impressed look on Lance’s face once I handed him the iPad and he immediately responded, “Yeah, I needs those ASAP.”

“You like ‘em?”

“I love ‘em,” he said, setting his iPad down on the counter so that he could pull me into another loose hug. “You really got an eye for this shit, baby.”

“Baby?” I repeated amusedly, not exactly hating the way the word had so easily rolled off his lips. And in true Lance fashion, instead of even pretending it was an innocent slip, he only doubled down when he tightened his hold around my waist and responded, “That’s what I said, ain’t it?”

When he pecked my lips with a kiss, I couldn’t even argue; especially once he asked, “Now... are you ready to eat, baby?”

The question should’ve landed in my stomach. But instead, it landed a few inches lower. And from the smirk on his face, I could tell Lance had sensed exactly where my mind was, letting off a deep, rumbling chuckle that hit me in the same damn spot when he said, “Food first. I ain’t got practice tomorrow, so you’re gonna need it.”
