And then groaned, because the shit was good.

But after that, she was back on her bullshit, trying to deflect when she replied, “Just cause your ass is in love doesn’t mean that everybody else has to be too.”

“Now you’re reaching,” I giggled.

“Well something about Snoop’s walk is telling me it won’t be a reach by the end of the night,” Gianna suggested with a grin. And when I glanced in Kendall’s direction and saw him coming our way with strides that definitely looked like he was carrying something heavy between his thighs, I found it hard to argue with her any further, my mind immediately filled with lewd thoughts that were only partly interrupted when Kendall stopped at the chair next to mine and asked, “Is this where I’m supposed to sit?”

“Is your face where I’m supposed to sit?”

Clearing my throat -and my brain- I answered, “Yeah, if you want to.”

“Bet,” he replied as he dropped his full plate onto the table. And as if they just couldn’t help themselves, my friends barely waited for the man to sit down before they were hitting him with questions.

“So, Snoop. Do you have a girlfriend?”

“Zara!” I squealed, not all that surprised when she responded with a shrug that had Kendall chuckling with a mouth full of food before he swallowed and gave an answer.

“Not at the moment, no.”

Thank God.

“Let me reframe. Is there anyone you communicate with who thinks they’re in a relationship with you?”

Even though Iwasinterested in his response, I still told Kendall, “You really don’t have to answer that.”

“Nah, it’s cool,” he insisted with a grin before telling Zara and the table, “There’s no girlfriend, no baby mama, no fiancée or estranged wife, and no one I communicate with who thinks they’re in a relationship with me.”

I was pleased to hear it, and then very displeased when Gianna followed up, “What about exes?”

This time, it was Amari who chimed in, “Wow. Y’all are really in this man’s business.”

“You be quiet before you end up being next,” Gianna warned. And of course, that shut his ass right up as Kendall once again swallowed his food before answering, “To be honest, I really haven’t dated anyone on a serious level since college. And I’m pretty sure the girl I was with back then is married now.”

An assortment of follow-up questions came to mind, like why they broke up, and why he hadn’t seriously dated anyone since then, and how he felt about his college sweetheart being married to someone else. But I quickly realized those were answers I would have to get in private after Zara responded, “Doesn’t mean she wouldn’t cheat.”

“Okay, that’s enough,” I decided. And thankfully, my friends took me seriously this time, moving on to more general topics that didn’t put the spotlight solely on Kendall even though he’d handled it like a pro.

Honestly, I was impressed. And I was just getting ready to tell him so until I realized he was already leaning my way to say, “No lie. This might be the best meal I’ve had since I’ve been in Houston.”

“Mightbe?”

The fact that his once full plate was now completely clean left me wondering who could’ve possibly had me beat until Kendall said, “Franklin’s went crazy with that seafood mac and cheese.”

Just the mention of Franklin’s caused my mouth to water a little, hit with the ultimate foodie flashback that made me groan, “Oh my God. They went crazy witheverything. Literally the only competition I’ll consider valid.”

“Head-to-head, I’m choosing you every time, though,” he replied.

And because it was such a cute thing to say, I couldn’t help but blush when I responded, “Well thank you.”

“Nah, thank you,” he replied with a wink that hit me right between the thighs just as Donatello stood up to make an announcement.

“I know it's usually wake and bake. But what y’all think about bake and cake? As in, we go smoke and then come back to eat some of that bomb ass cake Kiki made?”

“That actually sounds delightful,” Zara responded, the rest of the group agreeing with her in various ways as they all got up from the table and started heading towards the backyard to smoke. But knowing that Kendall more than likely couldn’t,or just wouldn’t, partake, I decided to stay back, telling the bunch, “Y’all go ahead. I need to clean up a little.”

“I’ll help you,” Kendall offered as we both stood up. And I was truly grateful that he had since the pots, pans, and dishes were stacked high as hell in the sink, Kendall taking one look at what we were up against before suggesting, “You rinse, I load?”

“Sounds like a plan,” I replied with a nod.
