And that realization made it less of a surprise when Kendall got the ball and then launched it down the field to Hunter who caught the pass and easily ran it in for a touchdown.

“Let’s fuckin’ go!” I yelled, my skin tingling with joy as I started dishing out high fives to my girls. But it was Gianna who caught my hand so that she could tease, “Start stretching your neck out, babe! You’re gonna need it tonight!”

Taking her advice, I craned it to the left and the right, making Penelope cheer, “I know that’s right!” And with a collective giggle, we all turned back to the field to watch the extra point kick, the successful try giving the Skyhawks a seven-point lead with very little time left on the clock.

And giving us a reason to take another tequila shot.

At that point, it felt like the game was already won. And because of that, I was casually grabbing my things so that we could head down to the family and friends’ area to meet Kendall until I heard a certain roar from the crowd that made me turn back to the field just as the other team’s runner was getting knocked out of bounds near the fifty-yard line.

Damnit.

Apparently, this shit wasn’t over until it was over, the run putting the other team in position for one final play. And just like before, my heart started racing as their quarterback clapped his hands to get the ball, the Skyhawks giving him all the time in the world to throw it towards the end zone only for the ball to get knocked down by a defender upon arrival.

Nowthe game was really over.

My shoulders sank with relief, and a grin bloomed on my face as I watched Kendall celebrate with his team on the sidelines before going onto the field to show respect to his opponents. And when he was pulled to the side to be interviewed for television, I smiled even harder, feeling so damn proud as Gianna teased, “Look at you. With your smitten ass.”

“Shut up,” I giggled, pulling my eyes away from the field just as Penelope suggested we take a few pictures for the ‘Gram. And after making that happen, we headed down to the lower level of the stadium where a bunch of people were already gathered waiting on their respective Skyhawk, the mix of parents, WAGs, and children lowkey making me feel a little out of place until I heard someone shout, “Hey, Kiki!”

The voice wasn’t at all familiar. But when I followed its sound and landed on a warm, dimpled grin, the recognition was instant, the sight of the tall beauty making her way through the crowd towards where I was standing bringing a smile to my face as she approached saying, “I don’t know if you remember me. I’m…”

“Anastasia, right?” I asked, making her grin widen as she turned her head and put her hand to her chest while muttering,“Not Kiki Knight knowing who I am…”

Giggling, I replied, “Girl, please. I’m just a regular person.”

“You’re not,” she insisted. “But if it makes you feel better, we can pretend.”

With an amused head shake, I decided to change the subject by introducing my crew. “Anastasia, these are my friends, Gianna, Penelope, and Zara.” Then I turned towards where they were gathered to say, “This is Kendall’s sister, Anastasia.”

While Zara and Penelope both responded with polite little waves, Gianna couldn’t help pointing out, “You were the one at Franklin’s that night, right?”

“You mean, the one who had your homegirl ready to throw a drink in Snoop’s face on some Love & Hip Hop shit?” Anastasia replied, making everyone chuckle as Zara quietly said,“I like her.”

“Speaking of that,” I sighed. “I already apologized to your brother, but I want to apologize to you too for disrupting your dinner that night.”

“Oh, no worries, sis,” Anastasia insisted with a wave of her hand. “It was honestly comical.”

“Comical as hell,” Gianna chimed in with another chuckle that had me rolling my eyes as Anastasia said, “Looks like your boy has finally emerged from the locker room. Let me go tell him you're over here.”

Before I could stop her, she was already taking off towards where Kendall was in the middle of hugging a woman who had to be his mother considering their resemblance. And then he moved to hug another lady who didn’t quite give me relative vibes but was obviously someone he was close with according to how they were interacting.

“Who is she?”I wondered, trying not to jump to any conclusions as a familiar voice behind me said, “Wowww. Look who the wind finally blew in.”

Grateful for the distraction, I grinned as I turned his way and replied, “Hello to you too, Hunter.”

Slipping under his outstretched arm for a half hug, I wasn’t surprised to hear him mention, “I’ve been tryna get your ass to come to a game for years now. But of course, Snoop was the one to actually make it happen.”

Even though his claims were partially true, I still frowned as I pulled away and argued, “First of all, you’ve only invited me to like two games since I’ve known you, and they just so happened to both fall on days that I already had plans. And second of all, I cheered for you just as much as I cheered for Snoop today, so don’t be salty, bruh.”

“I’m a lil’ salty,” he admitted with a smirk.

Giggling, I replied, “I know you are. But you can also be happy that Ifinallycame out to support you and your squad.”

“You mean, came out to support Snoop and his squad?” he challenged, the question making my left eyebrow raise when I fired back, “Are you not the squad, or…?”

Shaking his head, Hunter moved to say what’s up to my girls who had unsurprisingly caught the attention of a group of players I was less familiar with. But before I could move to join them, a tattooed arm was loosely tossed around my shoulder, the sight of it making me smile as I turned my head just slightly and was met with the dimpled grin of the finest man on the team.

The man who looked even more handsome up close than he had from a distance.
