Shakira

I couldn’t get enoughof him.

The speed at which I felt myself falling for Kendall was honestly scary. But there wasn’t a single bone in my body that wanted to pump the brakes, parts of me even beginning to wonder if maybe, just maybe, Kendall might be my person.

Kiki, that’s just your pussy talking.

I wanted to believe that was all it was.

But even the sex was made better because of who Kendall was as a person.

He was kind and humble, open and honest. He looked out for people, especially his family. He was a hard worker, always doing more than what was asked to get better at his craft. And other than the random mistakes he’d made on the football field throughout his career, there was really no dirt on his name, a true king when it came to stacking his bread and staying out of the way.

That was probably the trait I was most fond of, especially after dealing with someone like Enzo who couldn’t seem to take a step without showing Instagram his cars, or his jewelry, or the bottles he was poppin’. But with Kendall, I couldn’t even remember a time I’d seen him on social media when we were together, mainly because he was always so focused on me.

Or on football shit.

That was how he spent the quiet, in-between moments. Studying film, watching the games of his peers, or watching old games because he really, really loved the sport. And when it wasn’t that, it was videos of wildlife, his obsession with animals making it less of a surprise when, after sharing breakfast, he suggested we spend his one off day of the week at the zoo.

Even though I’d been to several of Kendall’s home games by this point, the fact that we hadn’t really been seen together in public like that made it feel important to mention the potential consequences when I asked, “You do know if anyone notices us that we’re bound to end up online again, right?”

“So?”

“So?” I repeated. “Youjust… don’t care?”

“I really don’t,” he chuckled. “I mean unless it affects your bag or somethin’. But why would I be mad at the internet for thinking we’re a couple when that’s exactly what I want us to be?”

The way he’d said it so casually, you would’ve thought it was no big deal. But it was actually averybig deal, his question making my eyebrows shoot up as I approached where he was standing in my kitchen and responded, “Well that’s new.”

“Maybe to you,” he replied with a smirk.

“Actually, notto me,” I told him, a silly grin on my lips when I admitted, “You’ve been my man in my head forweeksnow.”

Now, it was Kendall’s eyebrows reaching new heights as he asked, “Oh really?” And after watching me nod, he immediately followed up, “So why you ain’t say nothin’?”

“Cause,” I stated like that was a complete answer, the amusement on Kendall’s face prompting me to explain, “What I look like asking you to be my boyfriend?”

“Come on, modern woman,” he joked, making me roll my eyes as I muttered,“In every way except that.”But when Kendall wrapped me in a low hug and then stared right down into my eyes, I realized it was no longer a joking matter, my breathing becoming a little more intentional as I watched him bite into his bottom lip before he said, “Be my girl, Shakira.”

I don’t know if it was the way he was looking at me, or the way he was holding me, or the request itself. But all of that shit had the butterflies in my stomach doing the orange justice, making it impossible for me not to smile as I asked, “Are yousurethat’s what you want? I mean, do you really know what you’re getting yourself into?”

“Yes and no. But that’s the fun part, right?”

“I mean, if you say so,” I teased, making him huff a chuckle through his nose before he asked, “So is that a yes?”

Pressing my hands against his chest, I replied, “Kendall, I already told you you’ve been my man in my head for weeks now. Of course, it’s a yes.” Then I lifted onto the balls of my feet so that I could seal our deal with a kiss, stealing a second one before I told him, “Now move so yourgirlfriendcan go find something more zoo-appropriate to put on.”

The use of the word made Kendall’s dimples sink extra deep as he gently let me go. But I wasn’t more than a few steps away when he called after me to say, “Hurry up. Our private tour starts in forty minutes.”

“Wait,” I said, peeking back to ask, “How’d you know I was gonna say yes to this?”

“Cause I planned on convincing you one way or another.”

“I knew I shouldn’t have caved so quickly,” I groaned, making Kendall laugh as he suggested, “Don’t even trip. I’ll be sure to show my appreciation when we get back.”

Just the mention already had me looking forward to returning home. But honestly, I was looking forward to the date part too, the casual vibe of it much different than the kind of outings I was more accustomed to.

Usually, I had to get dressed in something fitted and put on heels, do my hair and makeup, and then take a hundred pictures or more because wasting a good lewk around these parts was a no-no. And even though I still loved doing all that, and couldn’t wait to show out for Kendall in the very near future, it was actually kind of nice to just put on a comfy two-piece short set and sneakers, throw my recently-installed microlink extensions into a top knot, and then apply a little lip gloss that had Kendall acting like I’d done a full beat when he complimented, “You lookin’ a lil’ too good for the zoo, Shake.”
