Chapter Twenty-Six

Ryan

I receive quitea few looks from Sofia’s dormmates as I make my way through her building. I know I don’t belong here, but I’m on a mission to see my girlfriend, and no one is gonna stop me.

Well, except campus police. They could put a damper on things.

Thankfully, I make it to her room without the cops getting me, or even the resident advisor. I’m still floating on cloud nine, and I’m ready to stay on that cloud. Man, what a night. We got Johansson to the hospital, and he went right into surgery. Word is, he’s going to be fine, and DJ told me he has never seen an intern jump into action the way I did. Man, that felt good.

Pushing the door open, I step in and shut it behind me. I look at Amelia’s bed first. Her panty-clad ass is in the air, and pillows are everywhere. Nothing I haven’t seen before. But when I glance to Sofia’s bed, she is watching me, a little grin on her face. Something I always want to see.

“Hey, you,” I whisper as I toe out of my shoes. “You waited.”

“Barely,” she whispers back as I take off my hoodie and drop it on my shoes.

Quietly, I go toward her as she scoots over, pulling the blankets up for me. “Sorry,” I say, cuddling deep into the bed. But before I can cover up or even check her out, I bring her mouth to mine. She kisses me eagerly, and I don’t want to stop, but I have to tell her about Johansson.

I pull back, and she grins. “Sorry?”

“Not for that,” I say, and her grin grows. “No, for being late. But guess what? I saved a guy’s leg.”

Her eyes widen. “No way.”

“Yeah, it was so badass,” I say, and then I explain everything. She listens intently, her face showing every emotion I felt. She’s just as excited as I am. Her eyes are bright with only the moonlight shining on her face, and I decide right then that the word beauty was made to describe this girl. I let my breath out in a whoosh before I say, “I’ve never felt such a rush. I knew exactly what to do, how to help, and it was awesome.”

She cups my face, squeezing my cheeks softly, and her eyes burn into mine. “I’m so proud of you.”

I scoot closer to her, our bodies lining up since we’re lying down. “Well, now I feel even better.”

Sofia presses her lips to mine, and I’m in heaven. I cup her by the back of the neck and deepen the kiss, needing everything she is. Her mouth is so warm, so inviting, and I never thought that a simple kiss could ruin me the way her kisses do. I crave her, and after everything that happened today, she is the cherry on my celebratory sundae. Her thighs, her chest, and her stomach press into mine, and they leave me speechless. I try my best to ignore the fact that my extremely disobedient cock is very much lined up with that precious untouched center of hers. God, I want her.

My want for her also scares the living shit out of me. I know she won’t have anything to judge me by, and she’ll think I am awesome, which I will be. The problem is, I sure as hell don’t want her going on in her life, meeting someone else, and then they rock her world more than I did. That can’t happen. I have to make sure her first time is the most magical fucking thing in the world. Literally. I think of how I’d want my sister or my cousins to be treated by guys. Not the act—ew, gross—but the romance.

My dad was such a romantic. There wasn’t a day that passed where I didn’t hear him tell my mom he loved her or that she was beautiful. Even Shea is a charming and over-the-top guy. He is completely caught up in Aunt Elli, and I think watching the two of them, I’ve learned a lot. But is it enough to ruin Sofia for the rest of the male gender?

Why the fuck did I say that to her?

I’m such an arrogant idiot.

“Oh my God! I can hear y’all sucking face.”

I pull back as Sofia grins over at me, her face deepening with color. As she hides her face in my neck, I press my chin to her head. “Sorry.”

“Ugh, whatever,” Amelia groans, getting out of bed. She’s as dramatic as usual. “I’m leaving.”

I turn to look at her. Bless her, but she is not an elegant sleeper. She sleeps hard, and she wakes up looking like it. Her hair is a rat’s nest, and her PJs are wrinkled to shit. Her face is red with sleep, and I’m pretty sure I see a drool trail from her mouth to her jaw. While I want to laugh at her, I do feel bad for waking her. “I’m sorry. Do you want me to leave?”

She glares, but I don’t pay her any attention, not when Sofia steals all of it. Her grip on me tightens, and I swear I hear her whisper “no.” I didn’t expect it, and it leaves me feeling as if I’m still flying high. Amelia is pulling her bedding off the bed when I glance back to her. “Really, I’ll go.”

She shakes her head. “No, I refuse to be a cockblocker. Lord knows, Sofia needs to get laid.”

“Hey!”

She shrugs her shoulders. “There is protection in the nightstand.”

“Ew,” I say as the door slams shut, and I’m met with Sofia’s giggles. “I wouldn’t use her protection. I have my own.”

Sofia snorts. “She’s been sort of bitchy all day. The last couple days, actually.”

I meet her gaze, wanting to forget my sister altogether. I run my fingers along her jaw, cupping her face. “Really?”

“Yeah, it’s weird. Like when I said you’d bring Moon tomorrow, she wasn’t even excited. She just said ‘Whatever’ and left it at that, which is odd.”

“It is,” I agree.

“Then she’s been on the phone with Drew a lot, but she hasn’t really told me anything, not that I would tell you anyway.”

My eyes narrow. “You wouldn’t?”

“No, she’s my best friend.”

“But you’re talking about her now.”

“It’s superficial, and I told her she was being a bitch. She threw a pillow at me and told me I don’t know her life. Dramatic, as always.”

I scoff. “Sounds about right.”

“But something is off. I’ll keep an eye on it.”

“And not tell me a thing?” I ask, and she nods.

“Exactly.”

Oh, Sofia drives me crazy. Capturing her mouth with mine, I run my tongue along her lips, deepening the kiss. Her lips feel so innocent, so pure, and I guess that’s true. She has a heart that’s never been broken, and I’ll never in my life do that to her. When this ends—and like all college romances, it will—we’ll end on good terms. I don’t think I’ll ever be the same, though. Maybe she’ll come back to me. After she lives a little, sows her oats.

Okay, time to stop thinking about that.

When she moves her leg up, hooking it on my hip, there is no controlling my cock. I’m hard as a rock. Hell, my whole body is taut, and my breathing is ragged. I kiss down her jaw, licking and kissing her sweet-smelling skin. A soft purr leaves her plump lips. She squeezes my hip with her leg, bringing me in closer, and it sends my whole body into fits. I’m going to die. I feel it, but I don’t care as long as it’s her doing. She runs her nails down my arms as I press my hands into the small of her back, scooting her closer just as I reach her chest. Dipping my tongue into the valley between her breasts, I’m about to lose it. But out of nowhere, she freezes up on me.

I pull back, gasping for breath as I let out a chuckle. “I’m going to die.”
