“Yeah. Why? What was said?”

He shrugs but then pauses before he takes a bite of his sub. Once he’s done chewing, he says, “Just to stay away from you.”

I am pretty sure there’s more to it than that, but I also don’t want to know. I’m confident Evan handled it, and I respect that. I appreciate it. As I take my last bite, I clean up my wrapping and grab his before getting up to throw away the trash. When I turn, I find that he is watching me, a serious look on his face.

“What?”

“Can I ask you something?”

I nod as I come back to the bed, sitting on my knees and meeting his gaze. “Yeah, what’s up?”

He swallows hard, but his eyes never leave mine. “Not to sound needy and pathetic, but was the other night not good?”

I’m taken aback by his question. “Um, why are you asking that? I told you I enjoyed myself.”

“I know,” he says, holding my gaze. “But we haven’t done anything since that night, and I feel like maybe I messed up.”

“You’re so silly. We’ve been crazy busy,” I tease, but I can tell he’s worried about this.

“I know, but it just doesn’t seem like you’ve wanted to.”

“Evan, I have. I just don’t want to rush you into anything.”

He pulls his lip in between his teeth, and then he exhales. “I want you to rush me.”

“Okay,” I say, my lips curving so widely, my cheeks hurt. “Do you want me?”

His eyes darken as he reaches out, taking my jaw in his hand. “My love, I always want you.” He guides me to him, his lips inches from mine. “Which is why I asked, because I want you to want me too.”

“I do want you,” I say earnestly, my gaze searching his as my breathing picks up. “There is no question about that.”

“Then why are we dressed?”

“I was thinking the same thing.”
