EPILOGUE

(Six months after Country’s book.)

State

Iwalked in the front door and heard nothing but silence. An invisible fist clenched around my heart, and I threw my keys onto the table near the door where my wife argued we needed to keep them and bolted into the living room.

Taking a deep breath, I rubbed at my chest and stared at my family asleep on the couch.

My wife.

My son.

Fuck.

My shit mood over what Death had discovered disappeared. It flew out the fucking window because I got to come home to this. My family.Mine.

I grinned when I noted Crispin was leaving a pile of drool on Court’s chest. I made my way over and picked up my son, cradling him in my arms.

I glanced back down at my little mouse and saw her eyes were open and looking at me with a soft stare.

“He’s been grumpy all day from a temperature.”

I tipped my chin up at her. “I’ve got him, baby. Go grab a shower or get some more rest. I’ll see if he’ll go down.”

She blinked tiredly up at me. “You’re the best.”

Winking, I took our boy to his room. She was wrong. I wasn’t the best because that title went to her. My life changed when she walked into it, and only for the better. Yeah, we’d had our moments of arguing over bullshit things; it happened to everyone, and we got over it eventually, because no matter what it was about, it wasn’t worth losing sleep over… or her.

I lay Crispin in his little bed, and he stirred a bit but went back to sleep. He’d been such a good baby. Never whined without reason.

I wanted another.

Loved when Court was knocked up with my kid. She looked goddamn amazing with her round belly. Christ, just thinking of it had my grin growing.

Could I talk her into another so soon?

Crispin was nearly two.

I’d never forget the day she’d found out she was pregnant. Turned out the condom I’d used in the shower the very first time had broken. A sudden wave of pride had me puffing out my chest. I chuckled low when I thought of the moment when Courtney realized.

We’d been at the compound with her brothers a couple months after being together, sitting around a table. Well, most of us had been.

“Country’ll kick Casper’s ass,” I commented, tugging Courtney, who was sitting on my lap, closer to my chest. Court, Carter, and Calvin glanced over at their brother who stood at the bar talking to Dusty.

Death chuckled from where he sat at the table.

“Why?” Carter asked.

“Doesn’t matter why, but it might be best to go save him,” I told them and then thought of the best way to distract Casper from Dusty. “Stracy,” I called, and the club girl swayed her hips over toward us with a smile. She placed one hand on Carter’s shoulder and the other on Calvin’s. “Hey, what’s up?”

“The guy at the bar talkin’ to Dusty. Can you get his attention and lead him back over here?”

She took a long look at Casper and smiled. “I don’t mind at all.”

We all watched her work her magic when she got to him. Dusty shot Stracy a smile and slipped off her stool to make her way into the kitchen. I didn’t mind that Stracy stayed at the bar a while longer talking with Casper now that Dusty was out of the picture and Country wasn’t staring daggers at my woman’s brother.

Torch appeared at the table. He bounced on his feet a couple of times, flipped a chair around, and straddled it while looking at Carter.
