Instead, I feel nothing. And as quickly as they arrived, I cast those images back into the furthest recess of my mind.

I undress fully, stripping off my Lochkelvin skirt and standing naked in the chiefs’ shower.

The tartan skirt isn’t required to tell the world I’m Lochkelvin property. It’s all over me. It’s in my words, my deeds. I’m one of them now and our bonds run blood-deep. I’m in with the chiefs, not with Benji or Jamie or whatever he’s calling himself today. And my heart has proved it time and time again.

All for one and one for all.

The shower is an instant relief. Water cascades down my body, meticulously cleansing away the stickiness. I take a long moment to breathe beneath the spray, sheltered and protected, doing nothing other than standing there, enjoying the sensation of my muscles relaxing.

When I sense movement behind me, I don’t turn around. I smile into the spray, into the clouds of steam billowing around us. Arms gently wrap around my middle and my smile widens. Luke presses a soft kiss behind my ear, making me shiver despite the warmth.

We don’t speak, only kiss and cleanse. Lochkelvin water falls upon us, fixing our hearts, knitting us better.

“You’re gonna be okay,” I whisper against his jaw, the steam curling around us. A small dimple appears on Luke’s cheek, which I kiss. “You’re gonna get through this.”

“Going to,” Luke primly corrects, but he’s smiling as he says it and he looks touched by my belief in him. “I’mgoing toget through this.”

I beam up at him, and with my cheesiest grin, I tell him, “You can say that again.” He laughs outright at my words. And for long minutes under the spray, Luke and I kiss for a blissful eternity.
