“Out back, talking.”

“About what?”

I shrugged. “Not much. Just the wedding and stuff.”

“Oh, shoot. That reminds me.” She turned to Beau and tapped the table in front of her. “Beau, do you already have a date lined up for my wedding?”

“A date or a client?”

“Is there a difference?” she asked with a chuckle.

“Yes,” I heard myself saying, shocking the heck out of him. And myself. And my sister, too, judging by her expression.

Beau chuckled. “Yes. There’s a difference. But I haven’t lined up either one. Why do you ask?”

“I have a cousin who might want to hire you. I gave her your info, I hope that’s okay.”

My throat felt like sandpaper as I swallowed, and I looked down at my hands. There was no way I wanted to watch as my sister arranged a fake date for Beau. Maybe I shouldn’t have been so convincing last time I told her I wasn’t interested in him.

Though, that was dumb. Ishouldn’tbe interested in him. Not only was he leaving soon, but he was also doing a number on my emotions lately. That wasn’t something I should want, right?

No, I should be running in the other direction.

And yet when he cleared his throat and gave her a noncommittal, “Uh, yeah. Sure. I’ll keep an eye out,” every cell in my body hoped whichever cousin it was would lose his number.
