KAI

I saw her the moment I entered. The world around her went black, and all I saw was a single gleaming light. An angel with hair like soft flames falling around her shoulders. The sun was shining behind her right before it was to set, hiding away for the night, illuminating her as if she didn’t already stand out in a sea of identical wannabees and pretentious phonies.

I didn’t think I’d run into her. I mean, of course I knew she’d be here, it’s her fucking house, yet I thought she’d be off hiding out in her bedroom, locked away in her ivory tower away from anything and everything that might taint her benevolence.

Yet she was the first person I saw, like my eyes were searching for her before I even knew it. It happens any time I’m within one hundred feet of her. My body, my eyes. They seek her out, picking her out from within a crowd of drunken party goers with ease.

The party is a lot moreput togetherthan I expected. I imagined walking into a rager, like the one thrown for Ace and his twin sister Winter earlier this year at some flashy nightclub. However, this is more of a societal event. Men and women dressed in formal attire, teenagers who look like fucking royalty standing around drinking in plain sight, not bothering to hide away from their careless parents. A whole fucking event.

I wasn’t planning on showing up. Drake and Jax weren’t sure we were even invited, but I had to see her. Even if it was from a distance. I’ve made the mistake of forming an unlikely friendship with the girl nobody sees. A friendship I’ve treasured more than anything else. Stella and I have more in common than I ever would have expected. Both orphans, both grief stricken, both with ominous clouds hovering over us, threatening to drown us in their thunderous downpour.

Yet, most of all, what draws us together isn’t our tainted past. It’s the lack of a future we see for ourselves. She’s a lost soul, a girl whose dreams were crushed and have turned into nothing more than distant memories. And I’m a guy who knows having dreams of being anything more than what I see when I look in the mirror every morning, a bastard with no mother, a deadbeat, abusive father, and nothing to my name, are fucking pointless. Guys like me become nothing worth mentioning, and girls like her, they’re worth more than I could ever afford.

Despite that, I had my eye on her all night, yet somehow I still lost her.

I search the yard for her before I realize it, but she’s nowhere to be found. Ruby’s run off with Jax, Scar is somewhere with Ace, while Drake drove Jade back home after the scene she caused, arguing with Sebastian Silver in the middle of his own party. I stayed behind, claiming I was planning on hooking up tonight, but the real reason is I need to see her, to hold her, even if it’s for a second.

“Hey there, trouble,” a high-pitched squeal sounds behind me, trying to sound sexy but failing miserably.

I roll my eyes, knowing well enough who it is. “Casey,” I say before even turning to face her.

“In the flesh,” she coos annoyingly, running her fingers along my shoulder as she spins and comes before me. Dressed in a long dress, in a weird mustard looking color, she sways back and forth. The fabric hugs her body perfectly sure, but the cut outs on both sides of her abdomen are asking for too much. I mean, her tits are practically out and I can see the imprint of her thong underneath the thin fabric.

Her fingers curl around the collar of my jacket. “Where’s myI’m glad to see youkiss?”

She reaches up to kiss me, but I turn away, her lips falling on my cheek. “You look good, Case,” I mumble, slightly pushing her off of me, but she wraps her arms around my neck, pulling me closer.

“Show me just how good, Kai.” She runs her right hand over my chest, down my abdomen, and over my crotch, groping me in plain sight.

My hand covers hers, halting her assault. “Woah there Case, not here.”

“Oh come on Kai, I’m horny. Let’s get out of here. I need you.” Her desperation is such a fucking turn off.

“Not tonight, Cass. I’ve got somewhere to be.” Just as I say it, I see her. Watching me from the balcony of what I assume is her bedroom, she stares down at the party below her, her eyes immediately finding mine, looking right back at her. She looks so fucking beautiful up there, glowing under the twinkling lights wrapped around the railing. I can’t quite see her expression, but I know it’s not one of joy.

She catches me watching her, and suddenly she disappears back into the room.

“I’ve got to go,” I call out, pushing Casey out of my way and heading into the Silver’s mansion. I take the staircase up to the second floor and take an estimated guess which room she was in. I really hope she’s still in there.

I knock lightly on the third door to the right, but nothing happens. I give it another minute or two, but I hear nothing, just silence on the other side.

Not able to take it any longer, I turn the knob, slowly pushing the door open, careful not to make a sound. The room I enter is dark, only the light from the open balcony door shining in to illuminate the space. It’s a light shade of pink, ruffled curtains adorn the windowsill, and a plush bed sits in the dead center with a large canopy overhead. It’s a bedroom fit for a princess, and the sleeping beauty is lying right in front of me.

It’s eerily quiet, nothing but the thud of my footsteps as I slowly creep over to the bed where Stella is lying down, pretending to be asleep. Making my way to her, I sit on the edge of the bed at her feet, watching the steady rise and fall of her chest as she lays with her eyes closed. My fingers involuntarily move to push her hair out of her face, slowly grazing her soft skin, my thumb running over her pink, plump lips. The dress she’s wearing is a light pink color, similar to the one on the walls surrounding us. It’s short but elegant, her bare legs at my side making my hands ache to run along them and up her thighs to the sweetest spot that taunts my every dream.

I risk it, creeping my hand up and toward the hem of her skirt. I feel her go tense beneath me, her eyes slowly opening in response. “Hey there, Dollface,” I whisper as she looks up at me. She’s so fucking beautiful, not wearing anything more than a bit of makeup on her eyes and a faint, glossy lip stain.

Her reddish blond hair falls in soft curls against her pillowcase, “Malachi,” she moans, and my name falling from her lips like a melodious tone makes my cock strain in my jeans.Fuck.

I lean in closer, allowing myself to indulge in the floral scent of her perfume. It’s dangerous, intoxicating. “Yeah baby, it’s me.” Unhurriedly, she sits forward, swaying momentarily as she does.

“I missed you,” she confesses, her words ringing as true as the honest look in her eyes. Reaching out to me, she snuggles up under my arm. I shift closer to tuck her under me, wrapping my arm around her shoulder and pulling her into my lap. Her body shifts, settling in, while her ass moves over me, making my already present erection grow harder.

“Dollface,” I groan into the room, throwing my head back. “Stop moving.”

The moment she feels my cock digging into her ass, she freezes in place. Instead of embarrassment or arousal, a panicked expression crosses her eyes. Panic combined with rage.
