“Who the fuck is going to stop me? Huh, cause it sure as fuck ain’t going to be them.” Kane spits out at him, turning and pointing toward the five agents standing around like fucking pussies. Sure, they all have guns in their hands, but standing around the forest, dressed in their full ambush ready attire, they should look more inspiring.
“I’ll have the three of you arrested,” Morrison responds, but he doesn't sound so sure of himself. Kane’s a scary motherfucker. Definitely looks like one of those badass mafia bosses portrayed in movies, complete with the scar across his forehead.
“Dalton, this is my last warning,” Morrison blares, but no one makes a move toward Kane. I see them all take a barely noticeable step back.
“You do whatever you need. In the meantime, I’ll be out there looking for an eighteen-year-old girl who’s currently held captive by that fucking psycho.”

The moment Kane and I started for the woods, Elijah appeared beside us, rushing out of the cabin hysterical for losing sight of her. I could have given him hell, beat his ass, and made him beg for his life for letting her out of his sight when he swore to keep her safe, but I didn’t. There is no time to lose when my baby is missing.
Elijah walks beside me, his hands cowardly tucked in his jean pockets as we near our destination, a lone shack at the far end of a row of six luxury cabins. They’re massive, similar to the ones we stayed at last year when we came out with Sebastian and Ace, but those were blown to pieces when Wesley did the same to Scarlett. What is it with these girls getting captured by fucking psychopaths?
“The necklace she’s wearing has a tracker. I told her not to take it off for any reason. She’s a smart girl and she'll figure it out,” he states as the GPS looking gadget he has in his hand beeps.
“You better pray to all the fucking gods she didn’t take it off because I will find it and shove it up your ass.”
“Boys, we don’t have time for your bickering,” Kane groans as he rushes for the side window, staying low enough to stay out of sight. Elijah and I follow him, doing the same, and hunching forward, sneaking behind two bushes to the right.
“They’re in there,” I hear Kane whisper, pointing to the window that’s slightly cracked open.
We can hear voices inside, distinctively Stephan’s, but also another one in the distance, muffled by something.
“You thought you could escape me, didn’t you? You stupid girl. I told you I’d always be there. You’ll never be able to escape me. I won’t allow it.”A warped chuckle leaves Stephan’s lips, and I cringe at how deranged he sounds. He’s completely lost it, the desperation of being so close to the end.“Your parents left you with me. They left me no choice. What else was I supposed to do huh, raise you as my own?”he laughs again. This time, I hear sobbing coming from within as well.
“You’re a monster! Just do it! Be a fucking man for once in your life and pull the trigger.”
I don’t wait to hear what his response is. Grabbing the gun Kane handed me and kicking down the front door.
In a matter of seconds, I’m inside, Kane and Elijah right behind me, my gun pointed directly between Stephan’s eyes. It’s a military grade gun, the little red laser dot, flashing between his brows. Stephan doesn’t react, but his posture proves he knows he’s fucking screwed.
Stella quickly turns from her place tied to a chair in the center of the room. Her eyes go wide when she sees me, but instead of going to her, I walk around the room and stand directly behind Stephan, who lowers his gun when he sees the three of us pointing ours at him.
Elijah’s the one who rushes over to untie her, but I’m solely focused on keeping my gun steady. Stephan mutters something about not having the guts to pull the trigger, and I’m just about to do it when Stella mutters my name.
“Kai.”
I look up into her eyes, a silent request for approval, and she’s so close to giving it to me, but she walks over to me, reaching for the gun. Without a second thought, I release it, allowing her to take it from me.
This is her moment now. I won’t stand in her way.
