“Let me just grab my things and we can go. I won’t be long.” With that Jade disappears back into the room leaving me alone with her three bodyguards, at least that's what it feels like as they all glare at me with their arms crossed over their chests.

“You fucking hurt her Silver, and I swear we will make sure you regret it,” Kai threatens, both Drake and he stand up straighter, scowling deeper, trying, and failing to intimidate me. They don’t know the kind of fucked up monsters I deal with on a daily basis. These two wannabe bad boys don’t scare me.

I can’t hold in my chuckle at their pathetic attempt at intimidation, “You heard her, she’s coming with me. So back the fuck off,” I groan, an animalistic growl reverberating through the room, coming from a deep, untamed place within me.

They both scoff, heading out of the room and toward the one Jade disappeared into leaving me alone in their small living room with my little cousin. Stella watches me carefully, with a scornful look I’ve never seen leave her gentile, round eyes. She looks pissed off, yet worried, furious yet anxious. It’s confusing as fuck but continues to further prove my theory. Stella called me. She is the one who told me I needed to get my ass back in town and come for my girl.

“They’re right you know,” she stutters, her voice shaky as she advances toward me. Leave it to Stella to be a nervous wreck when trying to intimidate. She’s definitely not a Silver, we were taught, ingrained with those tactics, hell we perfected them while still in the womb. “They’ll come for you, and they won’t be the only ones to do so if you fuck this up Bass.”

“Wow someone’s suddenly got a mouth on them, and a pair of balls to go along with it,” I joke, but apparently I’m the only one of us who finds it funny. “They can try Stella, but you know they won’t be able to get within five feet of me before I finish them.”

“What about Scarlett? What about me? Are you willing to take that chance andfinishus?” she asks, and I know it’s only to prove a point. Which one? I have no fucking clue.

“I’m willing to step over anyone and everyone who stands in my way when it comes to Jade, dear little cousin. I’ve claimed her as mine and I will ensure she remains that way. I have no plans of ever letting her go.”

Stella’s gray eyes, the exact shade of mine, fill with ire as she scowls at me without remorse, her body shifting as she steps into me pushing at my chest. She’s tiny, shorter than Jade and frankly thinner too. Her auburn curls bounce making her look like the most intimidating mouse. “She not a property Sebastian, don’t you fucking get it? You will lose her if you think you canclaimher, you will push her away if you think you cancontrolher, and you sure as hell will forever regret it if you don’tvalueher. Jade’s a true gem. She’s fierce, loyal to a fault, but most of all she’s afraid. Her father, her brother, they’ve treated her like trash her whole life, like something that can be so easily discarded and forgotten. You want to keep her?” she asks, not expecting an answer but I nod nonetheless, “Then you need to cherish her. Trust her and show her she can trust you. Prove to her that you will always be by her side no matter the shit thrown in your way.”

My little cousin, only a few months younger sure, but nonetheless she is, “When did you become so wise?” I mock, but again she doesn’t find it funny.

“Life Sebastian, life has been cruel to us, to all of us. You, me, Jade, all her friends, all of your friends. A group of teenagers with more trauma and issues than should be allowed, but I think that’s what pulls us all together, it’s what attracts us to each other. Misery loves company, and in our case, tragedy fuels our connections.”

I draw my brows in together not quite understanding her point. “Why are you telling me all of this Stella? Why the sudden change of heart? I’ve been gone a whole week, yet you only now call me and tell me to come down here, no explanation just…”

“She’s hurting,” she says, interrupting me, “She’s falling apart. I can sense it in her mannerisms, I can feel it in the air around her, I can see it in her eyes. She needs you now more than ever, more than she’s ever needed anyone, but I’m asking you this Bass? Is this real, are you willing to stick things out, to remain by her side no matter what? Because there will be challenges, her brother for one, that’s an open wound still and I’m not sure how easily it will heal. Then there’s Scar, I mean they need to fix whatever happened between them now because I can’t handle the hostility. Kinsley isn’t going anywhere, the bitch is like a virus infecting everything around her, and finally the biggest obstacle of all, my uncle Stephan. Your father won’t accept her, he’s too proud, too much of a classist and worried about keeping appearances and ensuring bloodlines remainpure.”

“I’ll deal with my father, with Wesley gone I’ve realized that his hold on me is only as strong as I allow it. In regard to Kinsley, she’s nothing but a leech that needs to be ripped off and discarded, she won’t be an issue. Scarlett is determined to make things right and they’re taking steps in that direction. It will happen soon. As for Roman, he is worthless. He’s betrayed her in one of the worst ways, nothing but a fucking cockroach that needs to be crushed. I’ll do anything to make sure he stays away from her and out of her life, out of our lives.”

“What if she wants him in it, what if she chooses to forgive him?”

“Do you know something you're not telling me Stella?” I ask, my anger making its long-awaited appearance.

She nervously looks away, “No, but circumstances change, certain situations make people rethink things. Things that didn’t matter before suddenly do, I’m just putting the possibility out there.”

She knows, Stella knows Jade is pregnant, it’s why she called me that has to be it. She’s being hella cryptic insinuating that extraneous circumstances change the way we view things. That can only mean with Jade being pregnant, she might want her brother, her only blood connection, near.

I don’t get to ask as we’re interrupted by Jade stepping out with Kai and Drake close on her tail.

“Everything okay out here?” Jade asks, slightly uneasy. Maybe she thinks Stella has told me about hercondition.

“Just having a chat with my cousin, it’s been a while since we’ve seen each other and actually talked,” I say, wrapping my arm around Stella’s shoulder. I see Kai’s jaw twitch in response. The fucker wants her, that much is obvious, if even my nearness to her is affecting his mood.

“Well I’m ready,” Jade mutters, looking down at her feet. She’s nervous, my reckless, no shits given, badass girl is acting shy and anxious. For some reason that makes my heart skip a beat. I love this side of her, maybe even as much as her no fucks given attitude. She’s vulnerable, not weak. This is my chance to show her I’m here for her, I’ll be by her side through all of it.

???

Ten minutes. We drive for ten fucking minutes in silence. Deafening silence. I don’t push her, I act like the clueless bastard she thinks I am and pretend I don’t already know what’s eating at her. She nervously chews on her bottom lip, making my cock twitch in response as I tighten my grip on the steering wheel to suppress a guttural moan from escaping me. I need her to tell me, because although I’m almost certain it’s true, I need to hear it from her lips.

Her hands rub against her thighs, her fingers fiddling with the material of her leggings, anxiously pulling, and snapping the fabric. She’s crossed and uncrossed her legs twelve times in the last twelve minutes, shifted countless times, and loudly sighed for two minutes straight. It’s goddamn frustrating and I’ll admit I’m not the most patient of men. That’s it. I’m done waiting, if she won’t tell me herself then I’ll just have to get a confession out of her myself.

“Did you enjoy your Spring Break?” I ask, suddenly at a loss of words. How fucking pathetic did that just make me sound. Might as well have asked her what she thinks of the weather.

Her reaction gives away her thoughts as she turns to me, her eyebrows raising curiously. “So we are doing small talk now, I didn’t think that was our thing?” she asks coyly, the first smile I’ve seen today appearing over her perfect lips. She has this dimple right beside her left cheek, it’s barely noticeable but I can see it. It only appears when she’s genuinely smiling, just like she is now.

“Well it’s better than fifteen minutes of dead silence.” She nods agreeing with me as she turns away, facing out the window to her right. “If small talk isn’t it, then what is ourthingJade?”

“Sex,” she states bluntly, shrugging her shoulders but not meeting my gaze. I can’t help adjusting myself as I shift in my seat, my cock painfully aching in response, pressing against the zipper of my jeans.

“Fuck,” I murmur, elongating the word as it fades out in a hushed whisper.
