Grey leaned one hip against a theater chair while I leaned against the outside of the cage with Lyric at my side. She refused to go upstairs like I told her to. I’d be sure to spank that stubborn ass later. For now, I held her close with my arm around her waist. I’d toweled the sweat off my body and ran it over my damp hair. Deuce and Jonah left once I told them everything was fine. Although I knew Deuce would be calling in about fifteen minutes to make sure everythingactuallywas fine.

“Let me guess. You’re here to help.” I still wanted to fuck him up for touching her.

Grey held my stare, glaring at me with dark blue eyes. “You’re impulsive, reckless, and unstable as fuck. There’s nothing I can do to help you.” Grey’s eyes moved from me to Lyric. “I’m trying to save her.”

Save her? He was one ofthem. How the fuck was he going to save her? That was like the snake saying he wanted to save the mouse. Grey Van Doren was a fucking snake.

I tightened my jaw. “She’s not going back to you.”

“She doesn’t have to.”

“Then why are you here?”

He pushed off the seat and straightened his shoulders. “Because the Brotherhood is offering you a deal.”

He was no better than my father. I fucking knew he was one of them.

I took a drink from the water bottle Lyric had given me. “I’ve heard this sermon already. I’m not interested in their salvation.”

“I want you to fight me.”

Lyric stiffened at his words.

“Excuse me?”

“Me and you.” He pointed to the cage. “In there. The better man wins.”

There was no way he was serious. The cage wasmydomain.

I eyed his charcoal gray custom-tailored suit and smooth skin and laughed. He looked like he came straight from the boardroom. He wouldn’t last one round in the cage.

His jaw flexed and tensed. “It was my idea and they went for it. They wanted blood. Anything barbaric gets their dicks hard.”

I didn’t disagree with that. I’d seen it for myself. I also wasn’t an idiot. These men wouldn’t be satisfied with five rounds of simple sweat and blood. They wanted more. They always wanted more. “What’s the catch?”

“I’m on your side, Lincoln. I’m not the bad guy.”

You raped my girl. You’re as bad as they get.

I gritted my teeth. “The catch.”

He stuffed his hands into his pockets and inhaled through his nose. “We both walk in but one of us doesn’t walk out.”

There it was—the real deal.Death.It was always about death with them.

“Lincoln…” Lyric pulled away from me to look me in the eye. “I won’t let you do this.”

Those eyes. That look. Fuck. She almost broke me. But maybe Grey was onto something. Maybe there was a way out. “If I win, Lyric and I both walk away?”

“Yes.”

“And if you win, what happens to Lyric?”

“They won’t let what you’ve done go unpunished.”

Pain sliced my chest as I thought about her smile, her laugh, about that fucking wide-eyed look, and the faces she made when she came. The need to protect her had become a demon of its own, and I was about to give him a box of matches and watch him burn down their world.

I took a step toward him. “Answer the fucking question, Grey. What happens to Lyric?”
