Liv looks up at me and my breath catches. We’re so close. I could lean my head down a few inches and kiss her. I bet her lips are as soft as they look.

She looks away and stands. A chill replaces where her body was warming my side. I follow her inside and soon we’re in the controlled chaos of piling up plates.

We all sit at the dining table. Liv brings fresh beers for everyone and I squeeze her hand to thank her. She smiles and takes her seat next to me.

“I’m glad you came,” I say to her as everyone chats.

She grins. “Me too.”

We stuff ourselves. The conversation flows, then Vera opens the wine and passes plastic cups around. I take a tentative sip and purse my lips. It’s not bad.

“Seriously, Luke? You don’t have wine glasses?” Jordy says.

I smirk. “Sorry I’m not refined enough for your Mr. Belvedere.”

He scoffs.

“He has a point. I mean, you’re in your thirties now. It’s expected,” Liv says, and now I want to buy all the wine glasses in the world to make her happy.

“Yea, asshole,” Jackson says with a grin.

My eyes narrow. “How many do you own?”

He shrugs. “Two or three.”

“Bullshit.”

Liv laughs as Jackson winks at her.

“Not gonna lie, this shit isn’t bad,” Brando says, downing the rest of the cup.

Vera giggles, and he leans in and kisses her right on the mouth. I glance at Liv and sigh as I finish my wine. What I wouldn’t give to do that with her.

Vera and Liv insist on cleaning up, but we all end up helping. We migrate to the living room and Mark turns on a fight that’s starting soon. Liv looks out the floor to ceiling windows with Vera. “You guys want a tour? Sorry I didn’t offer earlier. I got distracted by a pretty girl.”

Liv blushes and Vera grins at her.

“I’d love that. You have a beautiful home.”

Vera pats me on the shoulder. “You guys go ahead.” She walks over to Brando and collapses into his lap. He grabs her ass and plants a kiss on her neck. Skye laughs way too loud at something John said and she nudges his shoulder, throwing her hair behind her. John gives her a polite smile and turns his attention to Mark. Good man.

I motion for Liv to follow me, and we head down the hall. “There’s two guest rooms, and this is the bathroom.” I flip on the light and she peeks her head inside. She gasps and runs over to the tub. “Wow! God, I would live in this thing.”

I grin at her and hold out my hand. “Follow me.”

She takes it and I flip off the light and take her into my room. She looks around with curiosity, and I watch her reaction as I lead her into my master bathroom. Her whole face lights up as she takes in the floor to ceiling window that overlooks the bay and the two person shower stall. Her eyes go wide when she sees the huge jacuzzi tub next to the shower.

“You can live in this one. More room.” She laughs and lets go of my hand to inspect it closer.

“I’m so jealous.”

I laugh and shake my head. The joy she gets out of the simple things is refreshing. I watch as she runs her finger over the controls and looks out the window. It’s dark, but you can still see everything lit up. The marine layer provides a gray blanket across the sky that glows yellowish-orange with the city lights. Her back is to me, and I use the moment to stare at her while I gather myself.

“Let me take you on a real date, Liv.”

Her head whips around and she wrings her hands as she turns to face me. I refuse to give her a reason to say no.

I close the distance and place my index finger under her chin and bring her beautiful eyes to mine. “No more group dates. Just you and me on a proper date.”
