“Will I get to meet any celebrities?”

He nods. “A few.”

“Anyone I’ll freak out over?”

He grins. “Have I told you about my friend Brody?”

My eyes threaten to pop out of my head. “Oh my God! I’m going to meet Brody Metzer?”

He grins. “Yup.”

“What do I do? What do I say? Is he cool? Of course he is, you’re friends with him. Does he know about me? What if I get his stats wrong?” I run my hands down my face and groan after I assault Luke with my rapid fire questioning.

He watches me with an amused smirk as he waits for me to take a breath. “He’s a person. Just be yourself.”

“Easy for you to say. You grew up with him.”

He chuckles. “I promise you’ll be fine.”

I take a few calming breaths and nod. “Ok. But you’ll save me if I babble like an idiot, right? Change the subject or something?”

He finishes his last bite and stands, taking my hand and pulling me to my feet. “Of course. But you won’t need me.”

He squeezes my hand, then leads me towards the room at the end of the hall.

The sprawling master suite looks out over the city. “Are you ready to see your dress?” He asks, excitement clear in his tone.

I return his smile and release the last of my nerves. Luke will be by my side. I have nothing to worry about.

He pulls me to a large closet and opens the door, revealing a sleeveless satin floor length emerald green gown. The straps are thin and the V neck plunges. A slit trails up the side. It’s gorgeous.

I run my hand over the fabric in reverence. There’s a pair of matching heels on the shoe rack. “Luke, this is beautiful.”

I turn to face him.

“I can’t wait to see you in it.” His eyes sparkle with excitement.

“Thank you.” I cup his face and kiss him. He lets out a contented sigh as we pull apart and I hold the happy sound in my soul.

He leaves, and I head into the bathroom to get ready. I curl my hair and pin it to one side. I go for glam make-up, using highlighter and bronzer that I usually skip. The bedroom is empty when I step out of the bathroom. There’s a green clutch and a cream jewelry box tied with a black ribbon on the bed. Luke walks in just as I’m picking up the clutch. He’s dressed in his tux, minus the jacket. He picks up the jewelry box and hands it to me.

“What’s this?” I ask, running my finger over the smooth ribbon.

“A gift. Open it.” He sits on the bed.

I take a deep breath and open the box and gasp when I find what’s inside. They’re gorgeous teardrop emerald earrings encircled by diamonds. “Luke, it’s too much.”

He stands and kisses my cheek. “It’s not enough.” The joy I see on his face sends my pulse into a steady gallop.

“Thank you. They’re perfect.” I swallow and try hard not to think about the cost.

“I’m glad you like them."

My cheeks flush. “I didn’t get you anything.”
