Zane put up a hand to stop her. “No, you haven’t read it wrong. I love her, Dani. I truly do. I was just sitting here earlier trying to figure out how to make it work long term and then you blew in here with a ready–made plan. It sounds almost too good to be true.”

Dani grinned broadly and elbowed Levi. “See, I told you they were in love! I knew it was meant to be after their first meeting. No one ever believes me but I have a gift!”

Levi rolled his eyes at her but threw an arm over her shoulder. “Yes, you called it. In future, I’ll always trust your gut instinct. Now give the man a minute to think.” She obediently curled up next to him and watched Zane who was seemingly oblivious to their presence.

“It would be a big change. Could I sell the practice here?” Zane muttered to himself, absorbed in the possibility of actually having a way to have Maggie in his life on a permanent basis dropped right in his lap.

After a couple of minutes, Dani couldn’t help but interrupt his musings. “I did bring the business plan and some things Beau and I worked up for you to look at.” She pulled a sheaf of papers from her bag.

Zane slowly looked up at her and a slow smile covered his face. “Let’s take a look.”

Zane soon had the papers strewn all over the coffee table and he and Dani were throwing ideas back and forth about what they could do and how they could do it. He was impressed at the thoroughness of the proposal she had brought and was almost convinced they could actually make it work. He finally stood and stretched. “It’s a good plan,” he admitted. “It’s something I could really get behind and, of course, I’ve come to really love Gladewater. My only concern is Maggie.”

Dani looked puzzled. “I thought having Maggie there was the best part of the whole plan?”

“It is,” he agreed wholeheartedly. “I just don’t want to make her feel rushed or like she doesn’t have a choice in the matter. I don’t want to assume she wants me there all the time.”

Dani looked at him like he was an idiot. “What the actual fuck are you talking about, Zane Savage? You love her. She’s mad for you. Now you have a way to be together. Go get the girl and make gorgeous little babies already!” She huffed out a breath but then softened. "I know it would be a huge change but take it from one who has changed her whole life in the last year, it's totally worth it."

“Sugar, don’t push the man,” Levi intoned, pulling her to him and rubbing her arm. “They need to get there in their own time. Lord knows it took me long enough to convince you we were meant to be together again.”

“That’s different.” Dani sniffed. “We had history to work through. They don’t. I’ve just solved their main challenge to being together.”

“Dani,” Levi started with an exasperated breath, but Zane interrupted.

“Look, I like the idea. I really do. We’ll meet with Beau and then I’ll make a decision. Just don’t say anything to Maggie yet. There’s a lot of moving pieces to this thing. I don’t want to say anything until I’m more sure about it all, and about where she thinks we’re headed.”

Dani huffed. “Okay, I’ll set something up with Beau and I won’t say anything...yet. You know how she is, though, she’s going to know I’m hiding something.”

“I’m sure you’ll work it out,” Zane chuckled. “I’ve seen that nurse poker face. I have confidence you can keep it a secret for a couple of weeks. I’ll try to have a decision by the wedding.”

“I’m holding you to that,” Dani grinned and then sighed. “What better time to tell her you can be together forever than at a wedding?”

Zane hoped she was right.
