When they stood in the driveway after breakfast, they held each other neither wanting to be the first to let go.

“I’ve got to get to work,” Maggie said reluctantly. “I need to check in on Sofia and JT, and then I’ve got a thousand things to do for the wedding. Thank goodness Mama is running the pre-wedding party tonight.”

Zane spoke between brushing kisses along her temple and her jaw. “I’m going to go get my stuff from the bunkhouse and bring it over here. I’ve got to catch up on my email and make sure there’s nothing I need to follow up on, then I’m coming to help you. Just tell me where to be and what time to be there.” He pulled back and looked into her warm, brown eyes. “You still need to get some extra rest with your head injury. I didn’t miss you wincing this morning when the sun shone in your face.”

She’d thought he’d still been asleep when that happened. He was so observant. I don’t know why I’m surprised, that’s his job. “Don’t worry, really,” she assuredhim. “It was just a little headache, and it’s all gone now. I promise.” He gave her a disbelieving look. “You kissed it and made it all better. Several times, “ she teased, which earned her an almost feral grin as he replayed in his mind how he’d made it ‘all better’ just a little while ago.

He sipped at her mouth again before responding. “Mmmm, ok, but really, sweetheart, a concussion is nothing to play with. Don’t overdo it. Text me as soon as you’re ready to leave work and I’ll come get you and help you with whatever.”

Maggie giggled. “I’m not sure Dani will appreciate you helping with her final dress fitting and organizing all the lingerie we bought her to go on her honeymoon.”

He choked a little. “Uh, yeah. That would probably be awkward, but I’m sure you’ve got a giant list of other things in that head of yours that don’t involve Dani’s underwear.” He stepped back and flung out his arms. “I’m here at your disposal. Do with me what you will!”

Maggie looked him up and down appreciatively as she grinned. “Now that is the best offer I’ve had in months,” she joked. “Why don’t you just come over to the cafe once you’ve finished. I’m sure I can have a honey-do list done for you by then.”

He smiled as he took her in his arms again and gave her a final kiss. “I like the sound of that,” he said. Before he let her go, his whisky eyes met her chocolate brown ones in a look that was like communion. "I love you so much," he said.

She had to get her breath back before she answered. That look would be her undoing. "I love you too," she said on a shaky breath. She gave him a final kiss and turned to her Explorer.
