Drake nodded toward Cassie. “I’m going to escort this man to the front of the building; I suggest you and Abby make your exit now.”

“Abby’s leaving now.” Cassie’s gaze met Abby’s.

“I’m going,” Abby said.

While Drake walked Bryan around the side of the tavern, Abby climbed into her vehicle. Moments later, all Cassie could see were Abby’s taillights as she drove away.

Alone, Cassie straightened and brushed the dust off her clothes, glad for the air to breathe.

Then Drake rounded the corner of the tavern without Bryan, a tight smile lifting the corners of his mouth. “Still want to see the stars?” he asked.

Cassie nodded. “Absolutely.”

He grimaced. “My truck is over by the B&B if you’d care to take a stroll with me.” Drake offered her his arm.

Cassie looped hers through his and walked beside him to the corner. “Stars, huh?

“Gotta be the best show in town with these big skies.”

“So I’ve heard,” Cassie smiled up into Drake’s eyes, ready to take a chance on this man.
