“Ma’am,” Cassie said. “Would it be possible for me to meet with you and your husband in West Yellowstone tomorrow afternoon? It’s at least an hour closer to me.”

“I suppose,” Amy said. “Only, please, don’t come if you’re trying to sell me something.”

“I’m not trying to sell you something. I just want to understand your daughter’s case a little better.”

“Do you have any information about her?” she asked, her tone hopeful.

“Only what I’ve seen on the missing persons database.”

Amy sighed. “Although it’s been so long, I won’t give up hope. Yes, my husband and I will meet with you tomorrow.” She gave Cassie the address of the campground. They agreed on a time, and Cassie ended the call.

“I hate to get her hopes up,” Cassie said.

“If our woman in the wall was her daughter, she’ll want to know.”

“If she’s not,” Cassie’s lips pressed together in a thin line. “It’ll be yet another disappointment and more heartache.”

Drake held out his hand. “Ready to go?”

Cassie nodded. “I am. Especially if we go back to the plan.”

“And what plan was that.”

Cassie stepped close to him and laid her hand on his chest, drawing a line with her fingertip down the length of his torso to the waistband of his jeans. She lowered her voice to whisper, “Let’s get out of here before I embarrass myself at my place of work. I could get fired if I act on what’s going through my head right now.”

Drake groaned. “Keep those thoughts.” He grabbed her hand and marched her through the station and out the door.

Cassie turned to lock the door then followed Drake to his truck. Once they were both inside and seatbelts buckled, Drake took off for the bed and breakfast.

As far as Cassie was concerned, Drake couldn’t get them there fast enough. He could break every damned speed limit, and she wouldn’t give a damn.
