It’s hard to look away. Not only because I’ve missed my cousin, but she is exceptionally alluring.

As if entranced, I observe Cassie while following her around the store, watching her expressions as she skims comics and mangas.

Her soft-looking rosy lips part as if she’s amazed by the book in her hand, and my cock twitches in reaction.

Get it together.

She’s my cousin.

Family.

I clear the sudden dryness in my throat and lower my gaze at last.

“Remember this?” Cassie asks excitedly, holding up the comic. “It’s still going to this day. I like that they aged the characters.”

“It’s dumb. I lost interest a while ago.”

“Oh.” She sucks her teeth. “Well, I still like it.” Her brown eyes enlarge as they lock on something behind me. “Reid!”

She touches my arm before scurrying off, leaving the area of my skin tingling.

Calming down, I turn to see what caught her attention. Cassie wags a Funko pop of Tanjiro Kamado from my favorite anime, Demon Slayer.

“Tell me you still like this.” She’s practically bouncing in place. The genuine hope that one thing hasn’t changed exudes so much that it slightly softens my guard.

I cave and admit, “I do. It remains unbeatable to this day.”

Her features brighten, russet eyes glowing even more. “Let’s get this and my comic.”

“Here.” I reach for them while taking out my wallet.

“I can pay,” she asserts, waving off my hand.

“Just give it.”

Cassie playfully huffs when I grab the items from her. She follows me to the counter.

“Burgers?” I ask her after paying.

“Sure.”

We exit the store. Turning at the corner, I spot Bristol and her friend heading this way. Perfect.

Bristol’s gray eyes jump from me to Cassie, face twisting into a look of sheer disdain.

She texted she was in town and wanted to see me. I wasn’t sure I’d run into her, but that’s partly why I agreed to bring Cassie.

“So this is the real reason,” she accuses with one hand on her hip, the other clinging to the shopping bag.

Cassie snaps her confused gaze to me.

“Excuse us,” I say to Bristol.

“Wait.” She stomps her feet like she’s on the verge of throwing a tantrum. “Reid, let’s talk.”

“There’s nothing to discuss. I’ve already said all I want to say.”
