While touching the back of his neck, he shifts in place, jaw ticking, eyes searching the floor for something invisible.

“Yes?” I urge in an even tone.

He meets my gaze, asking, “Did you call your parents about leaving?”

I crumple my brows. “What if I did?”

“Don’t...” He harrumphs, brushes over his damp strands, then adds softly, “Don’t leave.”

His flagrant appeal arouses a flip-flap sensation in my tummy. It’s the most sincere he’s been with me in days. But I’m still upset with his behavior. “This is a switch. You said—”

“I know,” he rasps and wipes his face. “You’re right. It’s not fair for me to be mad at you. I’m sorry for hurting your feelings.”

“Who said you did?” I play it off.

“I know I did,” Reid states with certainty. “I saw the look in your eyes. That hasn’t changed.”

Lowering my head, I toy with the loop on my jeans while internally grumbling.

“Want to watch a movie in the park later?” he offers.

Huffing, I step closer and tell him, “No thanks. I’m not in the mood.” I motion for him to back up so I can shut the door.

Reid grabs it instead, squeezing his brows together. “What is this? Are you getting back at me?”

“I’m going to shower and take a nap.”

He scoffs. “Come on, Cassie. Don’t be petty.”

“Excuse me?” I click my tongue. “I’m petty? Why should I make it easy for you when you’ve been hurting my feelings since I arrived?”

“I’m sorry,” he says, soft hazel eyes casting a spell and tempering the previous blows. It’s impossible to prevent the apology from tugging at my heartstrings.

Resting my hand on my hip, I tilt my chin and tell him, “Keep going.”

A smile appears, and it’s so refreshing to see.

His eyes fall to my chest, delaying a bit before quickly lifting back to my face. “Okay.” He clears his throat. “I’m sorry I was mean.”

“And?” I fold my arms and incline my head, waiting for more.

“I’ll do better,” he swears, briefly glancing at my chest again. “I will.”

I relax my body on an exhale and unfold my arms. “Well, that’s a relief to hear.”

“Did you call your parents?” he asks again.

“No. I decided to stay for Aunt Helena.” I add in a teasing tone, “She invited me, after all.”

My remark prompts a charming grin. “I deserved that. So about that movie in the park later?”

I nod. “Fine.”

“Cool.” He flicks to my chest once more before turning away.

Closing the door, I finish removing my jeans. As I think back to Reid’s few glances below, I go to the dresser mirror to check what had his attention on the plain tank top.

My eyes widen at the realization.

“Crap!” I forgot that the fabric is thin, and standing close to Reid, he must have seen my nipples peeking through. Not to mention, they’re hard for whatever reason.

Oh my gosh.

I just flashed my cousin.

Groaning from embarrassment, I strip and jump into the shower.

At least Reid has come around. So that’s a positive. I feared it would take the rest of the month and possibly the whole summer. Thankfully, my words seem to have reached him.
