Outdoor lights switch on before the massive screen goes black, allowing everyone to see as they leave the lawn. They create a mass of boisterous voices while discussing their favorite scenes.

Sitting up, Reid and I gather our trash and rise from the towel. I’m about to fold it when my leg cramps up suddenly, making me stagger.

Reid grabs my arm to steady me. “What’s wrong?”

“My right leg. I guess I had it in one position too long.”

“Here.” He crouches and rubs the back of my leg for me like it’s a natural reaction. “I got them a lot from playing soccer.”

As he kneads the area, I rest my hand on his shoulder for balance. Reid always looked out for me when we were kids. So not much has changed, it seems.

My lips stretch into a smile from the sweet gesture until the feel of his fingers on my skin becomes more, steering my mind in the wrong direction. Gradually, tingling heat pools in the spot and begins dispersing throughout my body.

“How’s that?” Reid asks.

“So good,” leaves my lips in a sultry tone, almost like a moan.

His head twitches a tad at my reply, and I hold back an embarrassed shriek and step away, saying more calmly, “It’s better. Thanks.”

Reid straightens to full height. “No problem.” He collects my trash and walks across to the bins.

Shaking off the odd sensation, I fold the towel and fall behind the moving crowd with him. We talk all the way to the parking lot.

“That was fun,” I say once we settle in the car.

“Yeah.” He starts the engine and cautiously pulls out, watching for the other vehicles. “It’s once a week for the summer if you want to do it again.”

“Awesome.”

Turning onto the road, he merges into traffic and takes the route home. “So,” he begins. “You said you remembered stuff about me. Okay. Tell me what you remember. I want to know.”

For the entire drive back, we reminisce and share interests without a break in conversation.

By the time we arrive at the estate, I’m more optimistic that Reid and I will be as thick as ever before the summer is over.
