She scowls when I stop before her. “Um, Logan, I’ll call you back.” Ending the call, she tells me, “That’s rude.”

I grasp her hand and pull her out to the yard.

“What the hell, Reid.” She tries to writhe free, but I tighten my grip. “What are you doing? We’re not kids anymore. Don’t pull me wherever you want.”

“Let’s play hide-and-seek.”

Cassie plants her feet in the grass, making me stop. She screws up her face when I look at her. “We’re eighteen. Not eight.”

“Come on. It’ll be fun.” I release her hand and nudge her towards the trees. “You hide. I’ll seek. Like when we were kids.”

As she glances past me, her shoulders gradually relax. “Fine.” She starts moving. “Count to ten. Slowly. Don’t look.” You wish.

A devious thrill immerses my body while watching my sweet cousin run through the trees, giggling as she disappears into their depths.

“Ten. Nine. Eight.”

Smirking, I start in the same direction Cassie went.

“Seven. Six. Five.”

I pause at a thick tree and scan for her shadow.

“Four. Three. Two. One!” I yell at the last number. “Ready or not, Cassie. Here I come.”
