Reid swims to the edge, and I let go so he can pull himself up on the rocks. He grabs my hand afterward and hauls me out of the water.

“Cool, huh?” he says with a smile.

“Yeah. Not as dark as I feared.” I move under the streaks of light shining through the openings. The patchwork causes some of the rocks to glisten. “Quite a hidden gem.”

“It’s a nice spot. Private. I come here a few times in the summer.”

I cringe from a sudden dip in my stomach at the thought of him bringing Bristol and other girls here. They probably made out right where I’m standing.

“I bet your girlfriends liked it,” I remark without looking at him, struggling to control the burst of jealousy that shouldn’t be there.

His snort fills the quiet. “I’ve never brought anyone here. You’re the first.”

A fog of relief and pleasure lures me into facing him.

Reid combs over his soaking wet hair. “Funny enough, you’re the first girl on my bike, too. And the first girl I brought on a helicopter tour.”

That shouldn’t mean anything. But it does. Oh lord, it does.

Aside from the sound of water dripping, we’re immersed in silence, staring at each other.

My breathing intensifies as Reid inches forward. Without a word, he binds me in his embrace, both of us wet and salty from the ocean.

The carnal need heightens as I press my head against his bare chest and listen to the powerful pounding of his heart. Uncontrollably, I carry my fingers up his back, enjoying the feel of his skin and muscles. They flex beneath my touch.

I bite my bottom lip to keep a deprived moan from escaping. God. Being in his arms is close to finding a safe and erotic place to hide away.

“Sorry if I’m being weird,” he says softly. “I just…missed you, I guess.”

“You guess?” I joke amid the battle going on within my body.

“I missed you,” he says again, grip tightening on me. Maybe I’m reading too much into things, but it feels intimate, similar to his embrace the night before.

I’m suddenly more aware of our surroundings. Anything could happen in this secluded cave.

Regretfully, I ease away from Reid. “Let’s um…” I draw a deep breath and subdue the hunger. “Let’s go back out. I want to swim some more.”

There’s a delay before he says, “Sure.”

Climbing down first, Reid helps me into the water and turns for me to hold him again. Though I try, it’s too difficult to avoid the thrill of our closeness.

We dip and come out to the brightness, breaking apart to enjoy the water for a few minutes before sitting in the sand.

We talk while drying in the sun’s heat.

“I’m surprised Aunt Helena lets you ride that thing,” I say while twirling my wet curls into a bun.

He leans back onto his elbows, and I have to stare at the sand to avoid lusting at his firm chest. “Mom thinks I got rid of it. I keep it hidden at the side of the garage behind the shrubs. I wait until she’s at work or I’m off the property before starting it. Genevieve won’t rat on me.”

I shake my head in wonder. “Geez.”

He tosses sand at my leg and narrows his eyes to playful slits when I look at him, saying in an almost flirty tone, “You’ll keep my little secret, right?”

“Of course. I’ll keep all your secrets.” I make the zipping gesture with my fingers at my mouth. “My lips are sealed.”

That makes him chuckle.

“So,” I drone and squint at him. “Earlier, you wanted me to promise not to mention something else to your mom?”
