Slippingmyblackcowgirl boots that Hunter brought me along with my black mini slip dress with one of Walt’s button-up shirts, it makes me feel good. My hair is in big, bouncy curls and my makeup is done. I don’t want anyone at the theater to look at me and see what happened. I want to appear as I did before.

My phone pings, alerting me that a car is pulling into the gate, and I know it’s Walt. It’s been nice having him back in the house, in my life and in my bed. Waking up to Walt makes me happy, and I’m even more ecstatic that during this first week, all I’ve been doing is sleeping in his arms. I smile because after talking to my eye doctor; he told me I could try wearing contacts again, but if they hurt, to take them out. I have felt no pain in my eyes, which makes me happy.

Grabbing my bag, I leave my walk-in closet and head downstairs to the main floor. When I get there, Hunter has his bags packed.

“Where are you going?” I ask. “I don’t want you to leave.” I answer honestly.

“I’m not, sunflower.” He smiles at me as he puts his dreads up in a low ponytail. “I’m just moving to the pool house. You two need your space and to figure things out again. Your heart-to-heart shows that you need each other. Plus, I don’t want to hear you two. I only have so much patience and it’s a damned open concept home.”

I try not to let my embarrassment show on my face. “What about the rooms on the main floor? It’s practically its own wing and space. You can’t hear anything unless someone is yelling. Plus, it’s closer to the doors. I know you’d prefer it that way.” I offer.

Hunter nods. “Okay, I’ll be down there. Since the second floor clearly belongs to that little white-haired menace. He talks just like his fathers.”

“How did you know?” I ask, and then I shake my head. “I don’t know why I asked. You know everything.”

Hunter chuckles. “Not everything. If I knew you needed me in person, I would have moved everything years ago. I thought I was doing you some good by staying away and not reminding you of things.”

“I love you, Hunter.” I smile as I give him a quick hug.

Hunter kisses the top of my head. “I love you too. Now go, your husband is clearly impatient.”

“He’s…something alright. Okay, I’ll be back.”

I take a deep breath and walk towards the door. Without thinking about how it’ll be when I’m at the theater, I open the front door and walk towards Walt’s sleek black sports car. Opening the door, I slip into the car and Walt cocks his brow my way.

“Now you’re just teasing me at this point. Didn’t I tell you this morning not to sign up for things you’re not ready for? My threat to handcuff you to me still stands, Milagros. My shirt looks so good on you, baby. I’m going to buy more.”

“If you handcuff me,” I start as I click my seatbelt on. “How are you going to go about your day? Plus, you said I’m not ready, so handcuffing me to you kinda puts you in a tight spot. Don’t you think?”

“Keep on and I’ll be in a tight spot.” His threat teases my body and I want him. I’m teetering on the ready if he keeps this up. I miss my husband in every way.

My eyes slowly turn to look at his side profile. “So, you’re saying you like what I’m wearing? That’s all I hear.”

“I’m saying you keep finding ways to fuck with me today. Did you drink some sort of Fuck with Walt Juice today?”

“No,” I giggle. “I drank some coffee, but that’s close enough.”

“It’s not gonna be funny when I spank you and where the fuck is my kiss?”

“Spanking is against the law, Mr. Cambridge.” I unbuckle my belt and lean in, grabbing his jaw in my hand to kiss him. I see the glare in his eyes before I do it, but I kiss him quickly, mimicking what he did this morning. He is trying to tease me, so I will return the favor. “There you go. We can go now.” I say, sitting back down in my seat, ready to go.

Walt makes a sort of weird grunt as he grabs me by the back of my neck and leans in, kissing me so thoroughly that everything else around me stops. I don’t know if I’m breathing or anything else. When he stops kissing me, he cups my face and traces over my lips while he looks me in the eye. My heart is beating so loudly in my ears. How did I stay away from him for so long?

“Don’t play teasing games with me. I’m the master. Nothing is illegal here. This is my town. Now, we can go.”

“You’re so bossy.”

“And I’m just now realizing that you like it. You just keep adding to your punishment. I haven’t forgotten.”

“What punishment? I thought that canceled out. Also, can you not do whatever it is you do every time we’re around Chris? He’s afraid of you. He begged me not to come with you or to leave you in the car.”

“I didn’t cancel a damn thing. Postponed. Fuck Chris,” he pauses like he remembers something he doesn’t want to talk about. “But okay. I won’t bother him.”

“Okay,” I answer, but it seems like something is bothering him. There’s a look in his eyes, but he looks away as we drive off to the theater. “Is everything good?”

“Yup.”
