“A decision you didn’t fully make until you were mad at me. It’s a mansion, we won’t see each other unless we want. If you were uncomfortable, you should have told me.” I look her in the eyes so she pays attention. “And I’ll always fight for what’s mine.”

“Me too, Walt.” Her face is serious and marred with a slight frown. “I don’t like the reminder that you had someone before me. You’re mine.”

“Then fucking act like I’m yours and stop shutting me out and running,” I halfway yell. “You’re stressing me out over my brother’s girlfriend, who’s on a mini vacation with her boyfriend, while we’re here arguing over something that’s never going to happen.”

“How do you fucking know, Walt!”

I didn’t expect her to yell. I sit back and look at her to let her finish, but probe when she doesn’t.

“Know what? That Moonlight and Whit are in love? I see it every day.”

“No.” She shakes her head and closes her eyes. “How do you know you won’t get your memory back and regret not being with her? How do you know I won’t be second to the woman you really loved?”

Ah, there it is. That’s the real problem. I tuck my finger under her chin because I need her to hear me clearly.

“I had no fucking recollection of Moonlight. If I was in love with her, I would have remembered… something. Even if I got my memory back tomorrow and found out that I somehow loved her, it wouldn’t fucking matter because no love I could have had for her would ever be strong enough to wreck my brother like that.” Her eyes are glassy, like she’s trying not to cry. “I heard I spent a year with Moonlight, but the only memory of a woman that came to me was fucking you in the shower on my yacht, Everie. I only knew you for one night.”

“Walt…” she starts but seems to be lost for words. I shake my head.

“One night is all it took for you to get under my skin. One. I’m not going anywhere, and neither can you. ¿Lo entiendes?”
