He dragged the blade against my cheek as he drew blood.

I winced but didn’t scream.

“You forgot to mention you were C.I.A.” Benjamin pulled back and stared down at me.

I didn’t know what to say.

I never thought he’d find out.

“I finally figured out how to make you speechless. It’s a real shame I had to learn the truth while I was in prison.” He dragged the sharp tip of the blade down my neck and toward my cleavage.

This time he didn’t draw blood, only scratched the surface.

My mouth felt like it was filled with cotton balls. I licked my lips. “Can I have some water?” Whatever he’d given me to sedate me had made me thirsty.

Maybe I could trick him into letting me get a drink of water or use the bathroom.

I wanted him off of me.

He glanced me over. His eyes narrowed as he stared at me. “I don’t think so.”

“Please.” My voice soft as I pleaded with him.

He tore my blouse with the blade, leaving me at his mercy.

“Ben, please stop.” I trembled from the cool air in the hotel room. My lacy crimson bra on display as he palmed the material. “Ben. Get off me.”

“Do you really think you’re in charge?” Ben growled.

I flinched but, because of the restraints, was unable to move any farther away. I squirmed to get away but he had a knife and I was bound to the bedposts.

“You want the truth.” I stared at him, the sedative wearing off. My wrists hurt where he’d bound them above my head, spread out. “Release me, and I’ll tell you everything.”

“I didn’t drag you here to lie to me!” Ben hopped off my frame and grabbed a clear crystal vase. He threw it across the room, the contents shattered against the wall.

I took a slow and even breath. “You’re right,” I said. “I owe you the truth.” At least some semblance of what he believed to be true.

Would it be enough for him to let me go?

I doubted he’d set me free.

As the grogginess faded from my head, I recognized the room. We were in a hotel: Blue Sky Resort, if I wasn’t mistaken.

I hated that damn place. It seemed like everything bad always happened there, and it wasn’t even a crappy motel.

Maybe they needed to hire their own security team.

“I’m waiting,” Ben said. He folded his arms across his chest.

My cheek stung but I had to ignore the pain if I wanted to get out of this alive. At least he wasn’t throwing anything across the room or at me.

He would when he found out the truth.
