“Oh, her majesty decided to actually lower herself to call us small town folks?” Georgia’s snide voice cuts in. My anger only solidifies and that is enough for me not to hold back. Even Dakota’s scent sours with a mix of anger and pain.

“Hello, Georgia,” I bite out, letting the deepness in my voice rumble. She lets out a soft squeak but doesn’t hang up.

“M-Monroe?” she asks. “Why do you have her phone?”

“Well, there was just this little debate we were having when we ran into each other and we were hoping you could clear it up for us,” I muse. She huffs out a hollow laugh at my words.

“The pictures?” she asks without a hint of remorse in her tone. “Maybe if you weren’t fucking in our basement then I wouldn’t have gotten them. You guys made it too easy for me. I bribed one tech nerd and bam, life ruined.” She sounds so fucking proud.

“Does your pack know what a miserable bitch you are?” Austin asks with disgust.

“I doubt it. She’s good at playing the innocent, spoiled bitch. They’ll see it one day though and leave her ass. Imagine being that fucking jealous,” Felix laughs cruelly.

“Oh, I’m so hurt,” she feigns before a real laugh bursts out. Dakota’s face is shuttered, far too calm at all this. Worry bubbles in my chest and all I know is that there’s no way I’m letting her go to that fucking wedding.

“Have fun at your fake wedding. Dakota won’t be there. And if you even try to stir up more bullshit, then I’ll gladly ruin your life. Test me, Georgia,” I threaten. For once her cruel laughter is gone and I hang up on her silence before anything can escalate.

“Dakota?” Felix asks gently. She doesn’t even respond, her eyes locked on her lap. They’ve always been the only ones who can bring the feisty confidence our girl possessed down to this.

“You’re not going,” I forbid her. That shocks her out of her trance and she narrows her eyes at me.

“You don’t get to tell me what to do,” she seethes. Apparently I’m going to be taking her anger since she can’t take it out on them. That’s okay, I’m a big boy, I can handle it.

“I agree with him. They treat you like trash. Fuck them,” Austin agrees.

“I got cut off by my parents two years ago. I’ve never been happier,” Felix tells her. Both Austin and I freeze. That’s not something he talks about. Ever. We know of course, we’re pack, but even we don’t discuss it.

“Good,” she says. “Yours sucked too.”

“Your turn,” he challenges. She considers it for a second. Her phone cuts off our argument and she glances down as ‘mother’ scrolls across the screen. I reach out before she can grab it and decline the call.

“You don’t want to answer that. I’ll talk to her ass too,” I challenge.

“You’re not my alpha,” she says. “Stop trying to control me, Monroe. You don't even know me.”

“Oh I do, though,” I laugh. “I know you better than you apparently know yourself. And I am your alpha. Last time I checked you never broke up with me,” I say with a smirk I know will piss her off more. I’d rather see her angry than distant.

“Did the years and distance not clue you in?” she asks with a laugh. “Otherwise we’re likely all cheaters.” The thought of someone else touching her has a low, warning growl echoing from me. She rolls her eyes at that, not the least bit intimidated.

“Oh please. Tell me you’ve not fucked a single girl since me,” she shoots back.

“None of them were you,” I shoot back. We stare off as the tension rises between us. I can feel how badly she wants to give in, to let us in, but she’s scared.

“Why? Why would you want me after all this time, Monroe?” She’s crazy if she ever thought it was about anyone other than her. She was it for us… still is.

“Because, you’ve always been ours.”
