“Then I guess you’ve made your decision.”

“What are you saying?” I asked, not liking his tone.

“That you chose him over me. And you don’t have to worry about being trapped in the business any longer. Consider yourself…let go. I’ll have you removed from the schedule.” He got up and walked into the house without another word.

I was speechless. Mom stood up, came over to me, touched my shoulder and said, “I love you, Annabella.”

“I love you too, Mom.”

She walked into the house and closed the door. I sat there a moment, trying to take it all in. Then I went to my car, got in, and drove away.

Somewhere down the road, I had to pull over because I couldn’t see through my tears. I’d made my choice. Now I hoped Colton would make the same one.
