Aria stood and smoothed the skirt of her dress. “By the way, in case you were wondering, we mentioned your issues with betas at the dinner table a month ago. That’s on me, not her.”

After Aria left, I sat and stared glumly out of my office window, nibbling on my thumbnail—a childhood habit that I thought I’d grown out of. I wondered if I’d finally gone too far this time.

Rio was going to be pissed at me as soon as she told him, I knew that much. Just the thought of my pack being angry with me was enough for my stomach to twist with regret.Damnit, Marcus, why do you always do things without thinking about them first? You are going to screw everything up, just like you always do.

I wanted to sit and wallow more, but my new secretary, Alice, knocked on the door. “Mr. Whitlock, your ten o’clock appointment is here.”

Iwas on pins and needlesfor days after my conversation with Madeline. I fully expected Rio to come home from a date and berate me for talking to Madeline the way that I had.

But he never did.

A week and a half passed, and even Adair had managed to score a date with the mysterious beta, and still Madeline never mentioned our meeting to either of my packmates.

If anything, it just confused me more. Why hadn’t she said anything to either of them? Any normal person would have. Hell, I probably would have told Adair and Rio if the situations were reversed. So why hadn’t Madeline?
