“No, Samantha. Just no.” Dad shakes his head and gets up from his seat. He starts moving towards the door.
“You can’t keep saying no,” I say after him. “The least you can do is give me a reason why you keep refusing. I need to know why.”
Dad pauses by the door and I can see his shoulders are tense. “You can’t come into P&J, Sam. Not now. Just listen to me.”
“You’re still not going to give me any reason?” I whisper.
“It’s not the right time,” he says tightly. “You can see how it is. I don’t want to put you in the middle of all this.”
In the middle of what?I want to ask, but he leaves the room before I can reply. I don’t bother to chase after him.
Maybe I should start rethinking my dream to work at the company.
