CHAPTER TWO

CARMELLA

Today is the day that my best friend gets married. We’re currently all getting ready in a hotel nearby Leo’s Hamptons home.

The dresses that Nell and I are wearing are a beautiful deep red floor-length chiffon lace, with a plunging neckline. Meaning a bra is out of the question when paired with the ultra-low back.

Sure, for Nell it’s not a problem to forgo a bra. I, on the other hand, can definitely not pull off walking down the aisle braless.

After a six-hour shopping trip yesterday where I dragged Sergio around New York, I finally found the perfect underwear in the same deep red, nonetheless. Sergio reminded me at least ten times that he was a trained killer and not a personal shopper. Unfortunately for him, he’s been my guard since I turned sixteen. He soon quit his moaning after I bought him lunch and stopped asking his opinion on underwear choices.

Ha! Just remembering his face when I held up my bodice has me chuckling inside.

As I step out of the bathroom in my deep red bodice, Bea and Nell both gasp.

“Oh my God, Cam. You look amazing in that,” Bea gushes.

“Shame it’s going to waste, no?” I giggle as I spin to show them the back.

The strapless bodice plunges low to my navel and the back sits just above my ass. The cut of the thong is in silk so not to give me a VPL.

“When did you buy that?” Nell blushes as I wiggle my ass in their direction.

“I dragged Sergio round New York yesterday.” I grin.

“Cam, you didn’t! Are you trying to get your dad to shoot him?” Bea gasps.

“Chill, it’s not like he came into the changing room with me. He also told me he didn’t want to see me in it.” I chuckle at the memory of him glaring at me to follow his orders.

I’ve been winding Sergio up ever since he was appointed my guard. He’s only twenty-eight, so young in terms of a guard for an underboss’s daughter. Also close in age, which traditionally is a big no-no. Sergio has proved himself to be trustworthy according to Nic, who Sergio has worked under for the past ten years.

That, and the fact that I know he’s secretly married to an outsider who’s also the love of his life.

“You have no shame, Cam.” Nell giggles.

Not that I can disagree. I work hard to keep my body in shape. Sergio accompanies me on an eight-mile run every morning. I’m proud of my body. Why wouldn’t I want to show it off?

“Right, shall we get dressed?” I suggest.

The hair stylist and beautician have been gone for about twenty minutes, and all three of us are still in our underwear. Admittedly, both Nell and Bea have their silk gowns covering them.

Nell and I help Bea into her gown before we get dressed ourselves. Bea looks absolutely beautiful. Her silk dress is elegant and classy. It sits off her shoulders and fits tightly to her curvy hips before falling into a small train.

Mine and Nell’s dresses are a simple zip so ours don’t take too long to get on. Now all three of us are dressed, we can make our way down to the hotel lobby.

“You girls look beautiful.” Bea’s mom, Viviana, smiles at us as she wipes a stray tear.

I feel for my aunt, after losing Uncle Duran she has lost weight and she’s no longer her usual confident self. Hopefully Bea’s marriage to Leonardo will give her some peace and security. Not that everyone wants their daughter to marry the future heir to the Mafia throne. Although it helps, I’m sure, that Aunt Viviana and Leo’s mom Elena are best friends, and she’s known Leo all his life. That, and the fact you’d have to be blind, stupid, or dumb not to see that both the Bianchi brothers are besotted with Bea.

All our families are staying here at the hotel tonight; it’s just a short ride from the house. Viviana leaves before us with Bea’s twin sisters, Rosa and Bella. So, it’s only myself, Bea, Nell, and Bea’s brother Ricco left. As well as an unusual number of guards.

“Guess you’ll be closely guarded now, Bea,” I shrug as we get into the car.

“We need to be extra vigilant until we know the whereabouts of Roberto and Sandro.” Ricco confirms whilst climbing into the limo behind us.

“What does that have to do with me?” Bea worries as she nibbles her bottom lip.

“You’re about to become the wife of the future boss. Your son will one day become the boss of our world. You’ll always wear a target on your back, Beatrice.” Ricco’s statement sends a silence through the car.
