“Your town is being infiltrated with warlocks who are abducting young witches and attempting to force bond them with warlocks who have paid to enslave them,” I continued. “What I’d like to know is what you’re doing about it. Mystic Springs has a problem and as the Mayor, it’s up to you to, at the very least, set the tone.”

I caught a blaze of fire in his gaze. It lasted only a second, but it was enough to let me know I was getting on his bad side. Good.

“Go back to covering witch festivals and magical baking contests, Miss Landon. You’re not doing anyone any good with what you’re attempting to do right now.”

“I’ll be happy to print that you’re unwilling to talk to the press, Mayor,” I added. “And I’ll certainly be willing to let the witchkind of Mystic Springs know you refuse to answer our questions.”

With that, his steps grew even quicker. The air whooshed out of me as one of his warlock bodyguards pushed me aside. The Mayor slid out of the room and out of my sight.

As I fell backward, my back met with something firm. Hands clasped my biceps.

I turned, ready to fight.

And when I turned, I looked up into the dark blue eyes of Jack.

“Meet me at the diner later,” he said, his voice rough and commanding. That voice always made me feel infuriated and needy all at once.

So, I simply nodded.

And tried to calm my body at the thought of meeting Jack anywhere later.
