“Since that day at the cabin.”

“You’re an idiot, Jack Beaumont.”

He grinned. He held me so tightly, I couldn’t slither from his grasp. Luckily, I didn’t want to.

“That I am, Claire.” His lips hovered just above my brow. “I’m a fool for you and always will be. Give me a chance to make up for being such a fool and I promise you, I’ll spend the rest of my life making up for it.”

His fingers went beneath my chin, pulling my face to his and his lips meeting mine in a kiss so sweet and tender that it took my breath away.

“Jack?” I whispered as he pulled away and looked down at me.

“Yes, love.”

“Promise me one thing.”

“Anything.”

“Never turn away from me again. Touch me every time I’m near. Don’t step away when I’m close. And never stop telling me how much you want me.”

His lips descended on mine once again in a bruising kiss. Had he not had a firm grip on me, I might have melted into the floor. Relinquishing my lips, he put his forehead to mine.

“You’re going to wish you’d never asked for that, because I promise you, I have no other goal in life but to make up for lost time.”
