I frowned. “But why? I’m no good for you. You could do so much better than me.”

Her eyes widened in surprise. “Don’t ever say that again! Why do you think that? Because I got better grades than you? Because your dad was awful? Leave that type of thinking to my parents. It’s not good to think that and it’s not true.”

“It’s not just that. I also get so angry. You can’t deny that I have a temper. That doesn’t scare you?”

“No,” she said firmly. “Because you’ll never take that anger out on me.”

I shook my head. “You don’t know that. What if I snap one day? Or I end up drinking too much?”

“I know you won’t,” she said. “You need to stop comparing yourself to your dad. You’re not him.” She cupped my face with her hand, and I leaned into her touch. “You’re one of the best men I know.”

“Do you mean that?” I whispered.

She nodded. “Yes, Daddy. I do.”

I groaned and leaned down to capture her lips with my own. She tasted so unbelievably sweet. “I love you, little one,” I whispered as I kissed her. “I always will.”
